I just used the stock mount for my X50 Blue, under and to the right of the rear view mirror:

I like how Xtreme's V1 is mounted though....I may do that as well.

Yeah...around here my locals run full blast so they're easy to pick up a long way off.

The THP tend to use instant on.....and the small town speed traps use it as well.

They put K band drones on almost all of the school busses....that's certainly annoying.

IF you are the ONLY car on the road this is true. How often are you on vacant roads these days? There is at least 1 other car ahead of you somewhere within the range of the radar detector to trigger the cops radar first 95% of the time. That is a large enough percentage to make the use of the detector valid. Will it warn you 100% of the time? No. Could it save you more than the cost of the detector by saving you 1 time? Yes!
I'm not arguing the use...I'm a detector enthusiast from way back to the days of Fuzzbuster. Ahh, that black box on the dash, with the glass cone light that would glow and make the haunting oooooooo sound....I got the Passport first gen when it came out, then had various Bels over the years. Last one I bought was a 985 and it's still in service in my best friend's car. I bought a V1 for the Vette, and had it hard wired/mounts for both the Vette and GTI....make no mistake about the arrows, they're not a gimmick...once you go from a radar detector to a radar locater....all the difference in the world. The only issue I had with the V1 was the amount of falses in urban areas...I found myself ignoring it. So, I bought the X50 for the GTI and the V1 was dedicated to the Vette, it's use being mainly out in the open country where the V1 rules. The X50 has been and is now, the best (all things considered) detector I've ever owned. It's sensitivity is excellent, but also has filtering so it doesn't make me nuts in town. Sure miss those arrows though.

Out on the highways- they use VASCAR a lot.
I've never encountered VASCAR that I know of, although I've been in a few areas where they have warning signs of surveillance, and I've seen some strange markings on the road I assumed were VASCAR, but no units to be seen.

that's crazy!!!
And it sux when you have a bus moving along with you....dominates the K band on the detector so it's basically useless while the bus is around you. I friggan hate them drones.

I had it printed and in the glove box....but when I read your post I thought, hmm, I wonder if i still have that? Sure enough, buried deep down in Documents (Mac person)...there it was....V1 Programming.....I sold that detector a couple years ago when I sold my Vette. Had the V1 for 4 years, and still got $50 less than new $$$ for it. Too bad more electronics don't hold their value like that.

I had the same fused tap from my old V1 hardwire kit. My X50 uses the same RJ11.

I ran the wire through the top plastic at the header, down the A pillar, and then through the firewall. Pull off the plastic cover on the passenger side of the dash, and you'll see a small hole in the firewall, filled with tan foam. Use a straight wire (coat hanger clipped), tape your power tap to it and fish through the hole. It will come out in the space beside the hood, where the wiper motor is. Run it into the engine compartment. I used a multi-meter and found an unused socket in the fuse box that is switched with the ignition and plugged my tap into it. I had to do a little slot with the Dremmel to get the wires into the fuse box and allow it to fully close.

Hard wired, ignition switched. Took about 20 minutes.
