What things do you always take with you when hiking / camping? This summer I always took hammock and small pillow with me. My friend could o't refuse special dish for cooking vegetables over a fire. What things do you always take with you on a hike, although they may seem unimportant to someone?

I don't go hiking often, but I enjoy being in nature. Usually I have someone with me who knows better what is needed on a hike and takes it, but I recently found the hike packs and thought that it could really be useful for me. I chose one of the options on this site https://fannypackz.com/m/hiking-fanny-packs/ and decided that in this fanny pack I can put the essentials and I can easily and quickly find them if I need something. I really think this is a cool thing that is very roomy and doesn't bother you wherever you go.

Which flashlight is the best to carry out at the camping site? Many flashlights are out there, so it's hard to find one best. I got some good reviews about the Fenix PD35, Is there any other durable flashlight? A suggestion might be helpful to me :)

I carry 2 devices with independent GPS capability (in my case phone and watch) with maps pre-downloaded into both. Getting lost sucks.

I mean it all depends what type of backpack you have, but in general I wouldn't make any sort of survival kit Outdoor & Survival Gear - GritrOutdoors.com without ferro rod, even if I have other sources to start the fire. Out of items that may seem unimorportant - definitely a good pillow. I value good sleep over literally everything else and sleeping on cheap inflatable pillows is miserable.

back in the 70s we used to hike Desolation wilderness and other places. Rock climbed as well a lot. Back then we never carried that much water. Drank from streams and lakes. Never got sick once. I even drank water from the base Half Dome and filled bottles that comes right from its base. But back then was not all that many people into it. Mosttimes you never see a sole. If you did it was rather special even. I had full pack/haul bag with climbing gear that were well over 110 pounds. Hump time.

These days i camp out of the jeep. Like in 16 days we are off for 7 days on the Dusy Ershem annual run. Im not a sherpa anymore. The jeep is.
33 miles of rocks, lakes and all about 8,000-9.800 feet elevation. Its really more about the camping. Just a matter of making it to each camp. its can be done in 3 days, even two if dove say 14+ hours days no issues. But why....
