I recently changed out the cold air intake system for the manufacturers cleaner air system because the state I live in required it, but after turning my engine off, there is a rattling noise that persists for 10 seconds after. I found this piece next to my car and am wondering what it was and if this could be the reason my car sounds like it’s having issues?

my first thought is that might be a brake shoe retainer pin for drum brakes, but it looks way too clean. and is missing something on one end. not much help sorry But if the noise was not there until you replaced your air filter intake I would be tempted to take that apart and search for that piece that appears to be missing from pin you show. Hate to have a piece of metal enter your engine.

I agree with JFM626, my first thought would also be a brake shoe retainer pin?
