Can anyone tell me what the protruding "knob" is on the rear quarter panel of my 1973 CJ5? It's near the original spare tire mount area, but not sure it's purpose. Thanks for you help. I've owned several Jeeps but this is my first vintage Jeep.

They used to be made out of wood but the later model CJ5s were round steel.

It does look like you have the tire snubber in there also.
