You guys keep bragging about topless. Well..... I have you all beat. This is as open air as it gets.

Wheel Tire Vehicle Automotive tire Locking hubs

Notice the terrible shackle angle on the front. These are the Rough Country 2 1/2 springs that were on the roller when I bought it. The front shackles need to be slightly forward of vertical for best ride and articulation. The rears are the opposite, they need to be rearward of vertical. The rear springs were arched so bad that the were forward so far that they were making contact with the frame. They had tension resting on the frame. I had a hard time even getting the bolts out. I do not know how the guy I bought it from even got them in. Sure, it does not have a tub and bumpers etc. on it but I put a LOT of weight on the rear and was fully convinced that they would never be right. I bought OME springs and they sit correctly.

The RC springs were brand new. I called RC, they told me to go pound salt. I was not the guy that purchased them new.

This is a really nice roller. It has had some frame repairs but they are well done. It was blasted and epoxy primed and painted. A bunch of this Jeep was commercially blasted by the PO. It has all stainless lines, steering parts, brake parts, etc. A lot of other new parts included. I almost felt guilty for what I paid for it.

One of these days I will get back to this build. The pile of new and nice parts keeps growing in the meantime.

I thought about taking the top off tomorrow. I need to wash all my vehicles anyway, and it was 90° here today.

But alas, this week is supposed to drop back into the 60's and we have a chance of thunderstorms later in the week.

Ordered a set of the Smittybilt rear bolt-on tube fenders for a TJ since I cut the rears already. I'm thinking they will look correct on this jeep given it's more military look. Also ordered a set of Fishbone rocksliders. Ya, we were gonna fab some, but work is too busy and I need to get everything bolted on and correct before I tear it all down for paint in a month or so.

Use some YJ parts to help boil sap today. Worked better than I thought it would.

Hillarious.
just a suggestion, though: you’ll make cleaner-tasting syrup if you build an arch into that- you won’t need the air. The fire is too far from the pans.

Yeah, we’ll have one next year. The barrel is a new setup, and we were definitely still figuring it out.

You can put an arch into a single barrel but 1-1/2 barrels is better. The idea is like an old glenwood oven- force the flames into contact with the pans.
The arch causes the combustion gasses to burn against the pan adding two hundred or probably more degrees to the flames near the pans. That’s why commercial pans have flues- heat additive.
Even a sheet of 16ga or stacks of refractory brick over metal supports will nearly double your efficiency. Small rigs like the barrel arches can sometimes be 2” between the ‘arch’ area and the pans.

EDIT: holy crap though! The smallest coursing flue pans were ~$500+ back when I did it. I just looked to see what they had for barrel arches and the closest thing to those is $1600!!!

Today was Jeep Washing Day. Washed the trucks yesterday.

After washing, time to put on the memorial sticker.

Needed to measure for new shocks on the TJ since they are too short now. Guess I'll have an extra set of fairly new Ranchos. (@Luuca, you need them?)

Kind of made me mad. She made it about 2" farther up the ramps than I did. The TJ is pretty flexxy.
