My passenger side axle seal started leaking. The one from my cad delete I did.

That was a cluster trying to find the right seal then, turns out it wasn’t right still. Only been maybe 4 months. All the seals that everybody else used in theirs don’t fit my special Dana 30.

Not sure if maybe the ID was too tight? I remember they were really close.

Research has found that what I’ve got is the closest seal I can use. Between the 3 Jeeps it’s 1 step forward two steps back.

Flushed the silver Jeeps cooling system one more time today and filled with distilled water and actual coolant.

Also got the rest of the air out of the cooling system in the Comanche. Ended up putting the back of it on ramps and using the temp sensor port to bleed the last of the air out. No more overheating. It's driving pretty nice too! Almost have all the parts together for a full brake system minus the master and booster.

XJ tree work

I dropped a 90' Ash yesterday using my 96 XJ, a Warn XD9000i winch, a snatch block and a chainsaw. I chained the XJ to a fence post to keep it from sliding down the driveway. After felling I cut the trunk into 3 pieces to drag them up to the log splitter.

The tree was too close to the sheep fence to use my 14HP saw with a 30" bar so I used my Echo trimming saw with an 18" bar.

I had been using trash bags as a winch cover for the last 2 decades. I finally broke down and purchased a real winch cover for $16.35. I did not expect it to also cover the roller fairlead but it just barely does. Bonus!

The 3rd unused 12 volt connection is for the Meyer E47 snow plow pump.

Went to the junkyard and got a new taillight, rear wiper motor, and airbox. Got home and installed them, chased down a couple electrical issues, and tore down the headliner.

I stripped all the old foam and fabric off the headliner, got some fabric to put back up, but now I gotta wait for the glue to show up. Couldn't find anything locally for it, so now we wait.

I'm redoing it with red buffalo check flannel :laugh2: because why not?

The headliner Adhesive I used was 3M 38808 spray and it worked well. My Xj has a sunroof and I used one complete can on my install. Turned out well for under 40 bucks. Some of the other products like Super 77 say they are not for headliners in the fine print.

I used the locktite version when I did mine. Been holding on for 4 years now. Don't have many pics of it but here's one from when I was building rear shock hoops.

I'm done with the headliner! I finished Saturday night but didn't have a chance to post.

I wanted to make sure that it has no chance of falling down again, and I've had some earlier upholstering experiences go sour when the glue I used stopped holding a few weeks/months later. I had some trouble finding any of the above glues or any that sounded like they would work in local stores, so I ordered some 3M Hi-Tack 76 online. It has been over 2 weeks and the glue still hasn't shipped. It still sounds like this is a great glue for headliners, but I managed to secure a couple cans of 3M Headliner Adhesive after heading to a couple different AutoZones.

It was a bit more difficult than I anticipated, but I'm super happy with the results!

I installed a power steering gear box from a 96 XJ into my 90.
Turns out the box I took out was probably a junkyard box. It was toast.
The new/old box had 122K on it. Much, much better. The pitman arm came with it so I didn't have to deal with that. The pitman arm/draglink tierod was worn too so I replaced that while in there too. A couple turns to recenter the wheel and the job was done 🙂

Bought the HF hvlp gun to paint the MJ.

Cheapest quote to get a basic paint job locally was 8-11k

Might stick with a satin color and respray every couple years

I normally use my 1945 Willys to jump start my 1965 International loader backhoe but yesterday I used my XJ instead. The Willys has a hand throttle that I set to help charge and start the International diesel. The XJ wasn't charging enough so I used a chainsaw on the gas pedal to hold 2 grand instead. That got the old diesel running.

I was going to ask if there were any hand throttles for an XJ but I quickly found a Wrangler hand throttle that fits the 4.0 liter. The TeraFlex 4870402 is close enough for me.
Since I am a Pennsylvania Dutch cheap bastard I was having trouble coughing up $47.99 for what looked like a bicycle shifter when I noticed SunRace on the Teraflex 4870402 hand throttle. Doh!!! SunRace makes thumb shifters for bicycles.

$15.95 beats $47.99 by a bit:

You get a right and a left hand. I will have to figure out the other trinkets but they don't look like a big deal.

Last weekend I finished fixing the driver door and installed a headlight relay kit. I also went to the Pick-n-Pull and checked out the only XJ listed in the valley, I lucked out and got the NP242 shift bezel, Shift gate and indicator light loom.
