Deal. And I still need 97+ 2door seat mechanism. If you ever find a XJ wagoneer in the junk yard, please pull the front clip and I will compensate you profusely.
Still have been looking. Local yard had only 2 XJs on Friday. No 2 doors.Deal. And I still need 97+ 2door seat mechanism.
Would you buy that for me, pleasssseeee
I'll be keeping an eye on how things develop...Yes but I am no longer active duty, retirees, reservist and guardsman will take the brunt of the hit so AD guys can still soldier on.
Current recommendations that reservist have to use civilian health care seems like an effective force reduction tool. Many people lose money on drill weekends, combined with a 401k style retirement and no health benefits I see many people jumping ship.
I daily drive my XJ with front and rear lockers, 4.10s and 32s and I love driving it. I get about 23mpg at 70mph.Okay..... so I'm a 6-pack of Guinness into movie night w/ the kid, and a few renegade braincells are debating on laying out the 2016 build plan for the XJ.
Not looking to build a hardcore rockcrawler or mudder, just looking at a solidly built sleeper XJ that is well-rounded & can handle expeditionary duty (roadtrips) and run fast in the desert. I'll be reading though the various forums looking for Jeepspeed & expeditionary info to take cues from.
But I am also looking for thoughts/comments/suggestions from the XJ hive mind here. :cheers2:
So far, random thoughts (not necessarily in the listed order):
- regear to 4.56
- lockers front & rear
- 33x10.50's
- frame stiffeners front/center/rear
- either OME or Deaver springs, looking at approx 3.5"-4" of lift max
- SYE
- disc brake conversion for the C8.25
- disc brake upgrade for the D30
- sleeve & gusset the D30 at minimum
- upgraded electrical (starting w/ Kelly's WiP 5-90 wires)
- rear bumper w/ tire carrier
- bolt on rock sliders w/ 2x6 tubing welded in place of the rockers
- shackle relocation brackets for the rear
- new head unit w/ replacement speakers
- skids for engine/transmission/TC/gastank
- clock the transfer case
Q: Doing the D30 disc brake upgrade will require a bigger dia rim, but what's recommended? 16" 17" 18" ?
Q: In the interest of $$$ and considering that I'm not building a rockcrawler... long arms vs drop brackets?
Q: I've got the Boostwerks "ultimate XJ steering brace" arriving via UPS in a few days, so..... "upgrade" to the Durange steering box vs the S10 steering box or just stick with an XJ box?
Q: Not planning to cut into the cargo compartment for longer up-travel in the rear shocks, but will probably cut & flip the rear lower shock mounts to gain some clearance. Thoughts/suggestions on this? Thinking about the Cross Enterprises XJ rear shock hoop
And yes, I'm on a budget... still TBD but after doing the regear, probably $300-$400 per month average.
I'm getting the AJ's offroad tire carrier option when budget allows, their sliders and rear bumpers are good stuff for XJ's.As far as a tire carrier, JCRs option apparently is not a very price/quality option as wizardPCs writup showed. I would recommend detours or the carrier upgrade for the Mojave rear bumper from dirtbound.
Now the d30 already has disks, are you talking about the chr8.25 disk swap?
Ah havent heard about WJ disk swap up front until now. Thanks blue. Does AJ bumper tie in well with the rear rails?I'm getting the AJ's offroad tire carrier option when budget allows, their sliders and rear bumpers are good stuff for XJ's.
As to the discs he means the WJ disc swap/upgrade up front (for which you need a 16+" wheel) AND the 8.25 disc conversion which can be done with ZJ 35 parts or KJ 8.25 parts.
Oh god that's that dreaded GM steering column. Good luck brotherStarted a ignition lock cylinder! Got stuck trying to figure out how it comes out. I have a 94 xj without tilt steering. Anyone know how to get it out? There is no torx screw to release it.
No shame in some snow wheeling. Where you located? I'm on mobileNot what I did to her today but what I am about to do. It's snowing outside. Get to put her 4WD and go play on the roads. Yes I know doesn't seem like much but I am older now. My off-roading days are over. Still doesn't mean I won't own a Jeep.
Yup, factory mounts, rails and a couple extra points on the cut'n'fold versionAh havent heard about WJ disk swap up front until now. Thanks blue. Does AJ bumper tie in well with the rear rails?
If and your kid are having a good time with that you should check out rc rock crawlers on you tube it's kind of an expensive hobby but a lot of fun. There is also a rc crawlers forum my first xj was 1/10 scaleHad to show my son how to do some "box-crawling" with his new jeep. Wouldn't you know it ... the front drive shaft was removed for some unexplainable reason...it didn't really wanna flex, or the PO (manufacturer) put crazy long bump stops in... and at some point the wiring harness for the ECM got ripped out... Plus one of the rear tires came off the bead!!
Not to mention we got stuck when one of the rear shackles high centered. If the front was connected we wouldn't have had to winch out!
Mine's the smittybilt XRC rear tire carrier. I got nothing bad to say about JCR because I've never owned their stuffAs far as a tire carrier, JCRs option apparently is not a very price/quality option as wizardPCs writup showed.
