How's the gas mileage with the tire up there? I had a 31 on my roof for about 6 hours and couldn't do it anymore. Gas mileage dropped and the noise was awful.
Not bad. I have 4.56's. And haven't noticed it. However. I have a tire carrier waiting on my frame stiffeners to be installed then it'll be in the back. Wheel Tire Sky Cloud Car

Got the o2 sensor in the 96 yesterday. Still idles ****ty. Idles WAY better than it did with the old one plugged in, but about the same as it did with it disconnected. Still need to get the radiator replaced so I can see if it still bogs out and runs like garbage over 45 like it did before.

Hows the throttle body look? You cleaned it recently?

However if I don't get this bumpsteer fixed soon I'll be selling this.

Do you have a stabilizer on that steering?
I'm curious how much effect removing the boggers will have.

I'm hoping it helps. I'm not enjoying driving my jeep at all. I'm going to some 33x12.50 duratracs. As well as I have a Rustys over the knuckle trackbar & bracket to install.
Drained the cooling system, gave it another flush, put in a different thermostat. I "think" the overheating issue is fixed. Drove around for about an hour, different speeds. Highway speeds 65-80mph temp was 205-210ish range max. Idling for a while it creeps to 220ish and stops. Doing 35-45 w/ the AC on it got to 230 but that was the hottest the OBD was reporting.
Keeping my fingers crossed..... hopefully I didn't jinx myself thinking whatever the problem is might be fixed. Got a short roadtrip for work this weekend, so we'll see what happens.
Did I mention we had a thunderstorm in Vegas while I was doing all this? :umbrella:
Yeah, the ONE freaking day we have thunder, lighting, torrential rain with flash floods, and I decide to work on the Jeep out in the driveway. :brickwall:
Finally started a build thread.

I'll add a bit at a time until it's caught up.

Admittedly a stabilizer could band aid the problem enough to make it bearable. I stick to my guns that its an issue with geometry. Take something straight and use it to measure the angle bolt to bolt on the track bar and the tie rod. I hope you can get it fixed though! Your xj is looking sweet

I won't ever bandaid a issue. I just gotta make it somehow bearable to drive the 80 miles round trip on backroads to work.

Originally had a CEL for misfireson all 6 cylinders. Seafoamed it and they'd go away temporarily. Cleaned the TB and IAC, did nothing. Unplugged the downpipe o2 and it idles way less ****ty and the CELs went away. No change from that and its still right but better than it originally was. Guessing either clogged cat or injectors at this point.
So far today I've reinstalled some interior panels that have been out since May, reconfigured the remote start so that the radio and wipers don't come on until I put the key in, and now I'm headed to the range to sight in for an Appleseed shoot.
Go Johnny , go . :D

Try banging on the cat while it is idling with a screwdriver or ratchet. See if you hear anything loose in there or if the idle changes.

Both times I had a cat clog or go bad. First one it refused to let the jeep go faster than 30. It had a loud whining noise. 2nd one I had a rattling from the inside going bad and breaking free.
