Personally I would probably go with a 2.5/2.75 for a cage. After looking everywhere and not wanting to pay to have it shipped(about 200$). I checked "southern pipe" the last place I expected to have some and they ordered me some. Took about 5 days to get....can't wait to fab some stuff up.
If I'm not mistaken, which I may be, sched 40 2" pipe will actually measure closer to 2.5" on the O.D.

Playing in the rain today. Joys of Michigan weather. Should be 30 and have a ton of snow. but its 42 here and raining. So I took advantage of the warmth and changed my thermostat, and tried flushing more rust and stop leak out while I was at it. I think I will be fighting this battle for a while.... ****ing stopleak is bad mmmmk!?

Stop leak is evil. My friend worked on a 6.0 powerstroke that had a head gasket problem. The owner decided to add stop leak instead of coolant every time the coolant level dropped. He had an expensive repair bill which included replacing pretty much everything that had touched coolant.

People don't understand that if it stops the leak then eventually it will stop the water jackets in the block

Exactly, I tell my customers at work that its cheaper in the long run to just keep adding coolant. Now I get the fun of a compression check and leak Down test. No miss fires, no leaks, no oil/coolant mix (that I can see), plenty of power, but I have a hunch that I fried a head gasket. Radiator fill neck is making a fountain of water/coolant at similar RPMS to the engine instead of consistent like it should from the brand new water pump that's on it. At least ill get a free motor if its a fried head.

Drove it out Christmas shopping out of town last night, bout 80 mile round trip, mostly interstate running 75-80mph. Coming down an offramp the Jeep just dies. Fires right back up, dies again. I fire it up again and hold RPMs steady at 2500 for a little bit, let off and it settles back to perfect idle, never had another issue the whole way home. No CEL on at any point. Hmmmm.

Since I drive with my Ultragauge hooked up all the time I've noticed you can have lots of issues and never trigger a CEL. I had a pending trouble codes for faulty power steering pressure switch, idle and/or goal RPM not achieved and a freaking vacuum leak and never popped a CEL. And yes the light still works lol, I suggest you go get it scanned, I bet there is a code that's been flagged and stored but not triggered a CEL

I'm also guessing it "forgot" a data string for crank shaft position or something like that. My old Ram would do that and would stall out unless I revved it up for a little while but never popped a CEL

Very true. Ill have to have it checked, I still want an Ultragauge, been putting that off forever. Ive actually been suspicious of it lately just because of having to run through a couple relatively deep water crossings on the regular while navigating the land behind my house. Been worried about my alternator crapping out. Been down that road many times over my years of Jeepin lol.

Starting to think CPS issues. Died again this morning, tach gets jumpy and goes dead just before it dies. Fires back up after a couple tries though. First real issue Ive had like these with any of the XJ's Ive had over the years. Anyone have any insight or where to get a good replacement CPS? Ill search here shortly but if anyone is feeling froggy with the help Im open to it. :D

boring stuff

I'm working on getting my intermittent 12v supply in the dash to work properly. Also figuring out the logistics of adding another 12v and also a few USB jacks in the same area. I really need to finish my rust repair job though. Just been too frickin' cold lol

Most of what I have read about CPS issues is nothing beats OEM Mopar. Thankfully I have not had the pleasure, so far, knocking on wood now!

XJ : Vacuumed the carpets and vinyl protectant applied to a very dull dash and other areas . I know it actually helps destroy the vinyl in the long run , but it sure makes it look better now . And I figure in another 20 years it won't matter anyway , so ...
