Does it matter, its not like the XJ is a stealth fighter to begin with, I doubt any headlamps are going to make it harder to peg with the speed gun.

Im kind of wondering about the logic behind this one. Or is this like the white vs black diff cover paint debate from earlier this year.

Finished one side of my super stealthy radar proof led taillight boxes. 80Mph here I come!
I like them! Make sure you don't go 88mph otherwise **** hits the fan!

I been wanting to. I was gonna buy HID retro-fit lamps and put LED fog light 'bulbs' in them but someone pointed out that they would glare all over the place.
Then I found these:

$500 for set of LED 5x7" Headlamps

Oh, and BTW, your headlights are the best RADAR reflector ! (another reason I wanted to go LED, but just a flat panel full of LEDs)
Ok, a few things,

first, the HID kits, the common bulbs and ballast kits will glare everywhere like youre thinking, the retro fit projector kits like The Retrofit Source sells don't glare, they're the same (design of) lamps used in high end luxury cars. The plastic "projector" housings on ebay for 30$ are also total garbage, and don't to anything to focus the light output.

Second, the panel of LEDs, unless you know something about lighting no one else does your going to have to have some kind of optic over the LEDs so the radar would still reflect off of that. With out a focusing optic you just scatter light everywhere, blinding people, glare, short range, etc.

Third, radar? really? radar? your worried about the radar reflectivity of your headlamps on a vehicle that is mostly a box on wheels. You might as well paint a Cessna black and call it a stealth fighter.

$500! Don't get me wrong, I love LED technology, but that even SOUNDS ridiculous. I put $20 into mine for new halogens, and they work great. Somebody has to have better, cheaper LEDs out by now...

Pulled a mechanical driver's seat from the junkyard and swapped it with my electrical one. Now my seat doesn't bounce around or rock back in forth as I go along the trails! Or roads, for that matter.
Yesterday I pulled into work and was idling for maybe two minutes, then out of the corner of my eye saw steam coming out from under the hood: blew the cap off the coolant reservoir and lost nearly all of my coolant. :( So, after work I grabbed some more antifreeze, limped her home.
I installed a new mechanical fan clutch & replaced that horrible stock coolant reservoir cap. Am now using a Volvo one (Napa # 703-1396) which I guess is from one of their trucks. Ran around town and up a couple big hills: so far no problem! And it's a lot more comfortable to ride in when your seat isn't broken!:2thumbsup:

- LOL ...

Regular Headlights, and all lights with a REFLECTOR (shiny stuff behind the filament) reflect radar straight back to the gun.

It's a better reflector than anything else on a car, or Jeep

...and BTW, even just an extra second to step on the break may keep you from a ticket.
No it's not a stealth bomber in enemy territory. I was just thinking of ways to reduce the risk of having to deal with ********, or those who are 'slow'

Oh, and after the headlight switch meltdown problem I wanted to get lights that use a lot less electricity, the main reason for LED headlights! the radar thing - if it could be done - would be a nice side-effect.

wow, really???

- why would you use boat-trailer lights?
I mean the stock ones look better, and you don't have to do anything

Tuner, meet Wheeler.
Stock tail lights don't hold up well to impact and get expensive to replace a few. Not to mention the added attention of driving home with a broken tail light.
Those are the built-not-bought version of several aftermarket off-road oriented tail light boxes made with rugged longevity in mind. Some states require backup lights as well.

Yes, really.

I used lights from a trailer because they are narrow and I think they look cool. I made these because I do this thing called "wheeling" (something you have probably never done). When you wheel you break things. I broke a taillight

So I'll let you get back to your AutoZone shopping trip to pick up chrome accent pieces.:hahaha:

Not to mention, that if you do break one. Replacements are available at any truckstop/ parts store for cheap

I think you're way over thinking it, the theory is correct, but in application its useless, radar guns pick up things the size of baseballs (notice no reflective surface) with no trouble, an extra second delay isn't going to happen be cause you removed the reflective material from the headlamps. Its still an XJ, its a big metal box, every surface of the vehicle is going to reflect radar back and there's nothing you can do about it. Look at civilian aircraft, they have nearly no external reflector optic lights, yet they still have a huge radar cross section, its all about surface area.

Its would be far easier (and safer) to just drive the speed limit if youre looking to reduce police encounters.

But the tj sleeves will still work no difference in the tubes.
