seriously, one of these threads needs to stay alive in the XJ/MJ section and what better time to get a real one going then now with the creation of the XJ/MJ GD. now, lets keep this going.

for me, all i did today was take pictures of my newly cut front bumper.

picture a few posts down.

Blew my r/r and possible l/r rear shock(s) hauling about 1500lbs of dumbbells and weights. Oh well, I'm going to lift it in a few months anyway.....
Priced out tires for the XJ today. Think I'm gonna put a 3" BDS lift on with 31x10.50x15 Bridgestone Dueler Revo II
Currently doing rear brakes....ugggg...what a pain. Taking a break.
Trying to decide what 3" lift to go with on my 2000. BDS is probably my best choice, but also a little more expensive than I wanted to spend. I guess I could go with RC, but I don't think I'll be happy with the ride quality since the Jeep is my DD.
Rough Country has a decent 3" lift. Make sure you get full packs and it should ride decent. Shocks are what changes the ride the most. If I were you I'd piece together my own lift to get what I want from it.

-3" coils from Rusty's Offroad they are only $99 for a pair.
-3" OME rear leaf packs - Jeepin Outfitters
-JK wrangler takeoff shocks off eBay (I paid $50 for mine and they work for 2-4" of lift)

This should be a nice riding setup at a fraction of the cost. Kits are nice but I think its a better idea to build the lift to suit your needs.
Thanks a ton for that info. My cousin has a full set of JK OEM shocks that have only about 25k miles on them that he offered to me for free.

What about control arms, it's been recommended that I change those out too...your thoughts?
Nice score on the shocks! They require a bit of modification to fit but well worth it. Heres a link on what to do: http://fitchva.com/jeep/?p=50

As far as control arms thats up to you. If you do a lot of heavy wheeling then some aftermarket control arms could benefit you. You can always buy them later on. Control Arms from a WJ will also work for larger tires since they have an inward bend. They have to be trimmed a bit on the sides with a grinder to fit but work well.
Again, thank you for the info. I definitely do not do heavy wheeling. Most wheeling is done in my TJ...eventually I want to get the XJ dirty, but for the most part it's my DD...and this lift is going to be 99% cosmetic.

Sorry one more question. If I don't change the control arms then my toe cannot be adjusted correct?
So as I'm looking for rear springs...I find it quite funny that 4 wheel parts offers FREE shipping........which means their warhouse, ships parts to them for FREE!! But then they charge you to have it shipped from their store to your home.

There's nothing FREE about that.

For that bait and switch reason alone I won't shop with them :)
Just got the phone call that my zone 3" lift is in...woohoo!!
is there anyway to get full packs with zone?
No, not from Zone. But BDS makes them. I actually got full packs from ProComp...I figured they're worth a try for $217 for both sides including shipping.

I know you get what you pay for...but I couldn't pass up the price.
Next time you are expecting a delivery let us know if you aren't going ot be home.....
Yeah no kidding.

The expected delivery date was Friday...a day which my wife planned to be home all day. But yesterday she was gone all day, so it was unexpected that I came home to a delivery that was 2 days early.
I had a $300 package stolen off my front porch last night. Another reason I refuse to use UPS or FedEx to ship anything. USPS is slow but the price is right and it's safer.
Man that's terrible, sorry to hear about that. What are you going to do to get your package and/or money?
Started my 3 inch lift this weekend...went about how I expected...a solid 7 hours to get about 18% done
Yeah, I don't feel bad. Everyone has their own levels of experience. Mine is minimal, so I'm not ashamed to say that by myself on my garage floor it's taking me a very long time to do the job. When I'm all said and done I'll be much more proficient and a bit smarter...I hope :)
Absolutly man, its all about learning, atleast your doign it yourself and not paying to have it down :highfive:
I struggle with some of the jobs I do...but that's only because I've never done them before. 10 years ago my extent was doing my own oil changes...and that's it. But now aside from major engine overhauls and things of that nature or really heavy duty stuff, or electrical issues, I can do most myself!
Plus, with jobs like these, I enjoy it...even if it takes a long time, I enjoy figuring stuff out...be it on my own, or with the help of the knowledge here or wherever. It's the jobs like oil pan gasket and rear main seal...and things of that nature that I'll do, but hate every minute of it.
