Be careful on that hog!
Thanks for the concern (sincerely). I started riding dirt bikes in '84 when I was 12, got my MC license at 20, and I've had over 7 street bikes. But it has been quite a few years since I've riden. The first road trip on the Helix was WAY different than what my other bikes were like. We bought this as a "carry-companion" for our Class C motorhome. That will be it's main use, although I'm sure I'll sneak it out on the weekends once in a while!

Sure would beat the 9mpg I am getting in my Hemi Ram 2500 hahaha.
Yeah, our WK doesn't get driven as regularly as it used to, but that started over a year ago. Driving a '11 Subaru Forester now (have to stay with a 4WD-something-or-another). The Helix is currently getting about 45 mpg, but a tune-up should get that up a bit over the "50" mark.

Good looking bumper too!
Thanks! I actually caught a guy out in the street in front of my house the other day taking pictures of it. I thought he was from the HOA, but it turns out he has an '04 WJ that he's looking for a front bumper for. He asked a lot of questions...

Thanks to the Arnold! My dream was always to have a slant back H1 alpha. May as well be a Bugatti anymore... well outside of my lifetime earnings reality. That looks like a fun toy!
Last I looked, 6x6s are still "relatively" inexpensive to buy. I've always wanted one of those. And a plus is, when you change the oil, you can just dump it into the fuel tank and burn it!!!
You only have to fight all the "preppers" to find one though...

Got that, "I could basically pay cash for a tesla if I am not driving my jeep, money." hahaha. Way back in the day a moderator on a mazda protege forum I was a member of got his motorcycle license, went out the DAY he got it, laid it down body hit a guard rail post and paralyzed him below the waist. Be careful on that hog!

My brother just picked up a cheap "dual sport" bike and I have been keeping my eyes open for a decent dual sport for the right price. Sure would beat the 9mpg I am getting in my Hemi Ram 2500 hahaha.

Good looking bumper too!

I got this for saving gas, about 45MPG if I can ride it nice...

Rail Sliders
Since I was hanging close to home this 4th, Independent Day (2 ready) I decided to fab my rear bumper sliders or it could also be the first stage of a complete rear bumper guard, Sliders
Using the factory supplied two holes, I installed a 1/2-13 thread insert rivets with very little resizing (they go by many manufacture names) and some exist .375 x 3 bar stock and went at it. And here's what came out. I will need to add a little deflector edge on the front, either round rod or flat stock, which probably work best. Wood Bumper Gas Metal Automotive wheel system

Installed a new head unit. Was at the bone yard for something else for our '07 LTD, and came away with a sweet JVC kw-m730bt unit with complete Axxess harness for a handsome $42! We already had the factory bezel off our '05 LTD (now parked and parting), and I found the hidden service menu to replace the JVC logo at startup. Made the wife happy too!

Off the same donor (also an '07 LTD) came an equally unexpected full set of oem stainless steel sill guards (82209068AB & 82209307AB).

LoL!
The LJ hadn't been driven that much in the last couple years. We were told it ran fine, but it wasn't used daily. Based on that, it was "safer" to tow rather than drive it 150 miles down IH-10 btwn Houston and San Antonio on the backside of a holiday weekend with crap-tons of traffic! I didn't want to take the chance on that kind of a shake-down run.

Besides, Miss WorK Jeep likes to go for a ride and pull things! ;)

Had two of my tires blow a couple of miles apart on an extremely rocky and rough trail, 2 hours and 45 minutes into it. To any Arizonans, I was about 5 minutes away from Sheep Bridge when the second one blew. Turns out my 3-year-old Goodyear Duratracs had begun to dry rot on the sidewalls. Nothing obvious before the two side walls blew out. After, I noticed if you look real close, they had a porous appearance in a few places, and by the time they blew, all of the sidewall lugs and words had ripped off from the trail. Ended up finding five Jeep Wrangler takeoffs with decent tires for $140 that night, and the next day swapped out the wheels. Not fun stuff.

I did lol. "Turns out my 3-year-old Goodyear Duratracs had begun to dry rot on the sidewalls."
lol sorry I got confused. I thought it was different tires. Goodyears should last a while.

That made go look, my Goodrich all terrain KOs are 12 years old now  Still have plenty of tread but are looking dry.

Just be careful, you should really replace them. As crappy of a place for it to happen, it could have been worse. I was going less than 5 miles per hour, it could have been 75. That's exactly how mine looked. Still have 40%-50% of the tread.

I have a set of General Grabber AT2s on my WK that are 8 years old. Small cracks starting so I know it’s time to replace. Could not get the Generals in the size I use on the WK (245/70-17), they have been on back order for like over a year so went with the Duratrac (sitting in my garage will install over winter). The make a P rated version in that size which is what I bought because I didn’t want a stiff load range E tire on my WK. We’ll see how they do, the Generals were excellent.

Replaced both front springs/struts @ 264,000 miles. Noticeable difference. Should have done it at about 225,000 miles.

It's been almost 100k since I replaced my front suspension, probably going to have to look at doing that again soon. I think I need to replace my rear springs this time.

I loaded up the "Trail Rated Minivan" (someone on a Jeep Forum called it that the other day...) a couple weeks ago and headed out to the deer lease to build a new blind. Yeah, I was pretty loaded down on that trip, but we made it down the creek ravine and up the other side without issue (4-LO required) just as it sits in this pic:

I had to laugh at the Trail Rated minivan comment. While I haven't gone rock climbing with the WK, there are quite a few pretty rough areas on our lease where this Jeep has been (with my trailer) that no one else dares to tread. And I did it with leather seating, heated seats, quiet interior, AC, SAT radio, DVD player, etc., etc., etc...

This may be the closest to a "minivan" I ever have, but I love the Grand Cherokees!
