Finished wiring up the front camera! The hardest part (as usual) was fishing the cable through the firewall and around the body. I ended up tapping the ACC power line on the head unit, instead of going to the fuse box. Here are some photos:

View attachment 4143204

I drilled a small hole in the license plate holder, just above the plate, to route the cable through (then down; see next image).

View attachment 4143205

There was a convenient hole on the cross member that I could feed the cable up

View attachment 4143206

and the cable goes all the way up through the cross member, then to right. Yeah it's a bit close to the radiator but we'll see how the cable holds up

View attachment 4143207

then I routed the cables (RCA and ground) up along the hood release cable

View attachment 4143208

and the ground wire was attached to the 10mm bolt on the right, which is already being used as ground for ABS and lights (I believe)

View attachment 4143209

and I fed the RCA cable through the firewall using the existing port. Had to remove existing electrical tape, then lubricate inside with WD40, and used a cat teaser toy rod through. And taped it up once I was in.

and it works! :)

I used this camera model for both front and back - had the license plate mounting bracket I wanted (for a very clean, hidden look)

eRapta ERT11 camera

and this head unit which supports front and back cameras

Single DIN 9 inch touch screen with Carplay and Android Auto

Also used are the Metra 99-6503 Dash Kit, Metra 70-6502 Wiring Harness and Metra 40-CR10 Antenna Adapter.

Nice screen size, how’s it working out?
New shoes on the new (to me) Soft 8's!
Is the front bumper a cut down stock bumper Or aftermarket? Thx!
Changed the TCM on my 99 4.7 GC from 56041328AJ (45RFE) to 56044574AB (545RFE) so now have the extra gears, worked a treat at 70mph drops the revs from 2200 to 1800
So changing the TCM adds the extra gear? Would goin g to the 6 spd TCM do the same ? Thx!

It appears it is doable to go to a 6spd.. https://www.**********.org/threads/turning-an-05-06-jeep-545rfe-5-speed-into-a-6-speed.225110/
TPS Sensor. Fixed the rpm fluctuations at idle and speed..
Cleaned mine out to get it ready to sell. How much would you sell it for.
Tree landed on it. Runs perfectly, its a shame it took a tree to kill it.

Where’s it located?
Just got my '04 WJ back from Jacked Up Offroad in Lexington, NC.
Josh & crew installed 4.11 gears front & back & an Eaton - Detroit Truetrac in the rear.
Fair prices, good people, & the work is well done.
He's notices things beyond the scope of the job & doesn't hesitate to put it on the lift & show it to you & talk about fix options.
I recommend him highly.
The rear axle True Trac, do you have a Dana 35 or 44A? Thx!
Been a few weeks since I posted anything, but here's a bunch o' "todays" on my WJ build. Been doing a home made winch bumper. Recessed.. gout a HF standard winch plate and have been going from there. Need to make my plate washers for the inside of the unibody frame holes , but I ran outta Weekend. Pic heavy, but you can see where this is going. View attachment 4177296

Nice fab work! Going to make a few to sell? Thx!
My 242HD rebuild got put on hold, the kit didn't come with the bearing the shift shaft rides on and one of the main bearings was wrong. No biggy, Transmission Parts Distributors came through, this case is an oddball but they were able to get me all the right parts. View attachment 4177931
What’s odd about the case?
It is a mixture of parts from heavier duty cases with a standard one from what I can tell getting parts. For example getting a rebuild kit for a 242 with a 16mm wide input shaft bearing will not have the output bearing needed for a 32 spline shaft, which is a 6207, it comes with a 6206 which is smaller to fit the 27 spline shaft, only the WJ 4.7 case has this. It also has a pump that isn't even listed for a 242, it comes from the larger cases it seems. Had to send some pics of that to TPD to get the proper one. I do know the rear case half is a different part number as well, makes sense seeing the chain is wider as well.
Thanks for the info.. I’ve been looking for a clean 242HD to rebuild (wider chain, Sye, etc) seems it’s not 100% plug and play
Got the transfer case put back together and....it doesn't @!%$#!! shift properly. Like I just said, @!%$#!!
Bummer, you got to hate it when this happens…
Kicked the hydraulic fan to the curb
12 blade clutch fan, pulls more air at idle, there is a ton of air moving
Part number for the fan? Thx!
dorman 620-149 fan
dorman 620-070 shroud
GMB 920-2340 Engine Cooling Fan Clutch

also requires a new 2000 wj 4.0 power steering pump and matching pressure side hose
Thx!
I’m planning to do a Toyota swap when the time comes.
Toyota swap? Details? Thx!
I ticked a few more items off the road trip check list....

I re-did the anti-moth screen in the front grill. I posted the original attempt a while ago, @cDee63 requested a "let me know how it goes". I originally cut individual pieces and attached directly to the backside of the grill. Grill snapped into place, albeit hard. The grill popped loose after 20 mi. My 2nd attempt works much better. I instead installed a single sheet of 1/4" stainless hardware cloth behind the grill support. Black tie wraps (black is UV resistant, although since these are shielded once the grill is in place, standard white would have been fine) should do just fine to hold it in place, more were added after pics. Grill snapped in with no effort as one would expect. I can't see how this couldn't help from collecting pterodactyls in my rad... I should probably add a piece below the bumper as well, and of course now in this moment is when I think of that, as I had the bumper cover off yesterday eye roll
View attachment 4182841 View attachment 4182842

I also added a few more Frankenstein stitches to my mangled bumper cover.
View attachment 4182843 View attachment 4182844

Added some exterior lighting for camping and unloading gear after dark. 4" Nilight floods. The rear lamp I mounted high enough so it still shines light through the rear window when the tailgate is open. The lamp on the passenger side is angled to light up the area under my awning.

Finally mounted some tow hooks to the front bumper. I had to put a couple giant stainless fender washers on each to prevent the D-ring from rattling like a cow bell. But..... Another revelation as I write this, is that the D-rings look foolish as those are tow hooks, not D-ring mounts. I will remove them this eve and throw them in the recover kit lol.

I still have a few items to go. While I have been ignoring the CEL light for 3 years, I have concluded for best MPG I definitely need to clear those out. The parts have been on the shelf for as long as I have been ignoring them lol - bank 2 O2 sensors will be replaced, as well as the evap vent solenoid with its associated filter. The whole evap system octopus behind the rear bumper needs to be inspected as well, but if I find cracks/leaks they will likely just get my professional and world famous tape job lol. I also still want to swap out some interior 10A fuses with fresh Bussman replacements. After that, pretty much everything else left on the list is inventory, sorting, and packing. As I write this, 15d 22hrs 51m remain until my trip of many poor decisions begins....

Great job on the bumper.. ! Plan on making any for sale? Thx!
The passenger side slider is on, I'm going to paint the cladding with plastic trim paint and I'm debating between masking off the red strip at the top of the rocker and just painting it to match the cladding. Thoughts?

I'm also nearing done installing the ZJ snorkel, it's been a huge PITA to make it work.

And I gave up trying to modify the stock washer tank to work and grabbed a Nalgene bottle. I couldn't do the ZJ swap because I have an early WJ and I couldn't use the Napa tank because I have a 4.0. It's only 1/4 the capacity but it fits there nicely and I didn't have to extend the wiring or hoses at all. Excuse the zip ties, I forgot to buy clamps.

Who made the rock rails? My vote would be to paint the lower red to match what ever you choose for,the cladding..

Finally managed to jam my finger through the recirc button on my HVAC control. Seems it is time to find a manual one and do the swap.
What all is needed for the swap?
I have a couple of spare azc's if you're interested.
Is it just the control panel or do you need the entire manual HVAC to swap? Thx!
Replaced the damaged rear factory bumper with a steel one w/tire carrier.
