Topped off the oil. There's a small leak somewhere but not big enough to chase down until next Spring. Hooked up the OBDLink scanner and took it for a drive to see how everything's working. Looks good. Put together an emergency bag and a towing bag to keep in the cargo area.
I've been having intermittent issues with my backup lights and a turn signal. I'm fairly sure the backup issue is the transmission solenoid block pack but at $287 I'm going to do a little more investigating first. In the meantime I've ordered new tail light assemblies because I'm pretty sure they're the reason for the turn signal issues, and I've been wanting to change out the oem's anyway. Maybe I'll get lucky and they're the cause of the backup issues too.

I spent some time troubleshooting a couple of issues. I drove over a tall speed bump in a trailer park, which I didn't see, and my CEL came on. When I got home I put the OBDLink on it and got two codes: P0442 and P0445. Checked the gas cap and all vacuum lines but found no issues. Cleared the code and I'll keep my eye on it. With all the rain lately I've been getting moisture on the inside of the window when I first get in the rig and start it up. Turn the defrost on and it quickly goes away. I know it's coming in thru the fresh air intake under the hood cowl. I checked the ACZ for codes and saw 52: recirculating damper moving too far. Guess I have a little list of things to do now...
Got off work a little early today so I decided I'd dig into the AZC code 52 re circulation door issue. After pulling the glove box I discovered that the door was loose and I could easily move it back and forth. For now I put a piece of cardboard in there to shut off the outside air opening. This next summer I'll pull the dash and replace it. While I was checking the heater operation my upper console driver's side light started flickering. I pulled the console and discovered that the light switch was starting to come apart. The passenger switch didn't look much better. I pulled the console and repaired both switches with some Gorilla super glue.

Took a round trip of 1100 miles. Towed a 5' x 8' fully loaded trailer coming back. First time my Jeep has towed anything. For an 18 year old rig I was very impressed. Went up and down mountains with no problem. Maintained speeds of 65-75 mph and the average mpg ended up at 19.2 .

Also had the bright idea to replace the transmission pan with a Dorman 265-817 since it has a drainplug.
I did that awhile back

Mattimus,

When you pull your existing tranny pan make sure you remove the magnet in the bottom and put it in the new one, which doesn't come with one.

When your brother gives you a Smith & Wesson 9mm, and you don't need a 10 cd changer in your Jeep anymore, you install a Bulldog Vault to keep that gift safe. I put window seal strips in the vault to prevent the gun and spare mag from rattling around while driving.

I like the hack. It's creative, although maybe that's good stealth or maybe not? Only WJ owners really know what that bin is for in the back. To everybody else, maybe it's clearly a great sized bin for storing away something valuable ... such as a Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Tucked in a vault. Granted, is there really a good place to keep a gun in a vehicle where a thief won't find it? Probably not!
Anyone with enough time and the right tools can take anything. We only keep the gun in there while we're traveling. During a recent gun safety class the wife and I took, the instructor (police officer) said that the most common place a criminal gets a gun is automobiles.

Finally have enough snow and ice that I could take the GC out and see how the Quadra Drive works. Very impressed.

Finally got warm enough outside to do some work on the rig. Changed the oil and used a Mopar filter instead of the Havoline. The Mopar is a larger filter than the Havoline which makes me think there could be more filtering happening. While under the front end I discovered a drop of coolant (I add a cup of coolant to the overflow every now and then), and some oil. I'm going to pressure test the coolant system to locate the leak but I suspect it's the water pump gasket.
It's been quite a while since I've done anything to the rig. I have been adding Lucas high mileage fuel/injector cleaner with every tank fill up for the last 9 months. Today I hooked up the OBD reader to compare current readings with the initial readings just to see if it's making a difference. The MPG's went up 2 MPG's and the O2 readings dropped by half. The idle is smoother and acceleration seems to be a little better too.

My '01 had 150k when I changed out the fluid, filters, and pan. I went with the Dorman and haven't had any problems. When I get to the point of changing out the solenoid pack the drain plug will more than pay for itself.

Installed a recently purchased cargo rack.

I bought a cargo carrier that can be roof rack mounted or hitch mounted. I didn't care for the flat black color so I put a few coats of hammered dark steel spray paint on it. I installed it on the roof rack but didn't care for the look or the fact that it would lower the mpg's during a long trip. I mounted it to the hitch after adding amber reflective tape to the sides and fluorescent tape to the back side. Like it much better in the back. I have a cargo bag coming for it.

My Jeep doesn't go off road unless it's an emergency.
Replaced the cracked recirc button on the AZC.
