These brackets and tweeters are offered from quadratec. I only want the brackets to mount my own component tweeters on. Does anyone know of a source to get only the brackets or ones that will work?

I wouldn't do it. Dash mounted tweeters are one of the worst spots in a TJ. I still don't understand why it's so popular and even more, why the new wranglers do it...

Anyhow, tweeters are far too directional and too sensitive to phase variation to be that close to the listener. You want them mounted as far away from your head, and as on-axis as you can get. Unfortunately in a TJ this doesn't work so well and you honestly get better sound from a good set of speakers in the dash or kick panel. The few times I have done component style tweeters, the most successful places I've found are just under the dash or in the kick panel.

Thanks for the headsup SirG! I've already got Polk db 525s, and they sound great. I was thinking about making the sound brighter, but this clearly isn't the route to take.

There's a trick you can do to get more direct shot of highs out of the dash...

Take the grill off. Notice the grill slits are extremely thick and deep. This creates a channel the sound has to follow. If you grind down the back of the grill a little to change the channels to slits, it will let a lot more sound out (try listening without the grills on for an example. It won't be quite that strong modified since they will still block some.) Downside is if not careful, it can be an obvious change which might look a little odd. Also makes them slightly more vulnerable to a splash. I use a razor blade tool to clean them up after sanding or grinding. Don't go TOO far... Not all the way to the face.

It might get you the sound you're looking for, for free... Listen without your grills on to see if it's what you're looking for. If not, perhaps a brand of speaker change. Infinities are brighter than polks (which actually is why I don't like em, but if that's the sound you like, then you very well might. That's why speakers are so important for each person to choose themselves.)

Not perfect, but much better then most. It can be done there very effectively if done well.

Here is the solution I came up with for a few serious local guys looking for a more acoustically correct place to mount tweeters:

I do not have them in mass production, but if enough guys are interested I can run a batch. Hope that adds to your arsenal of options.

I'm 5'10" and this first set points almost directly at my face. I'd consider you the audio specialist of the forum...so you probably have more technical knowledge to offer, but from my experience this is the best way to do it (given that it's a Jeep!).

The technical what & why has to do with the axis (where it is pointed) with distance differences between listening positions and each speaker. High frequencies are very susceptible to both effects where lower frequencies are a little more forgiving. But to keep it simple, that's why this position is a good choice.

these were exactly what i was looking for! is there any write up for a noob like me on the tweeter setup? seems like i have to disassemble the doors which i don't mind. i may as well do it all together when i install power locks...

No write up posted yet, but it's real simple if you follow the directions that come with your components. The brackets mount to the lower door pins(mounted inside tub/no doors required), so all you have to do is remove the 2 bolts on each side, slide the adapters behind the pins, and bolt it back up. If you end up going this route and have questions, feel free to shoot me an email/text/call and I'd be more than happy to walk you through your installation.
