I think it would be worth adding the removal steps. For me, I just re-soldered the joints for the plug, they were clearly cracked and I could wiggle them around, no wonder the lights flickered. I live on a few miles of washboard gravel, so I'm curious how long my soldering holds up.

Could this be the reason as to why my dash lights don't work anymore?

They would work for a few days then stop. Work again then stop, and now they just don't work at all anymore.

Checked all the fuses and they're all good.

Just did this fix on 2 switches - one with fogs, one without - and it fixed both.

I need to do the VIC, guess I'll be doing this repair as well... first day driving to work in the morning, lights on auto. Got the strobe effect until I switched the lights from "auto" to "on" and they quit freaking out, hasn't done it since, but wifey will be DD this 5.9 and need it as calm as possible... she is blonde... LOL. Thanks to everyone who has contributed info on this subject!!!

Glad I found this, Im going to check the switch out and see if its my issue on my 1997 jeep grand Cherokee ZJ dash lights.

I replaced with a dimmer switch with a new one, dash lights, shifter light and ash tray all worked for a couple days then quit now what to check for?
