Climbing normally or in 'emergency drive'? limited slip/clutch noise is for normal mode only, limited slip should be locked when in emergency drive and shouldn't make any noise.

1 of two things, first it is the chain jumping teeth, 2nd is there is a clutch type limited slip inside the case to provide speed difference between the front and rear shaft during normal operation and you may be hearing that limited slip releasing. 1st is to change the tcase fluid with the proper fluid to work with the limited slip clutch, then hit a big parking lot and do a bunch of figure 8's to get the limited slip working correctly. 2nd is to check the chain stretch.

Ratcheting sounds from the t case under load is almost invariably a stretched chain.
The jeep is full time 4 wheel drive with the high low reduction so I put in low and tried going up the road again and as soon as one of the front wheels would break loose I get that loud bang so I backed down switched the E Drive on and tried again and install bangs as soon as I hit some loose gravel and the front wheel spins I took it to a shop had them change the seals to fix a leak and told them change the chain if need be brought them the TCL1 did the big circles and figure 8's in my field they said they changed the chain never had this problem before gonna try a new shop does anyone know where I can get the tool to measure the chain through the inspection hole
There are 2 different chains, also the china chains will stretch in short order and bang
Anyone know where I can get a tool to check the chain tension on the quadra trac transfer case

Maladroit also has his YouTube channel focusing on the QT Rebuild.
Does the CJ have a 'Double Cardan joint' on the front driveshaft? I know my J-10 does and the 'centering yoke' can wear or break and cause quite a banging noise when under heavy load.
I Don't know how would I check that front drive shaft
Just by checking rock auto it looks to be a double cardan.

thank you so much I will find out how to check that shaft for wear when that bang occurs under load sounds like someone banging on the front Diff with a large hammer

So, is the sound coming from the front diff or under your arse from the transfercase?

CJ7 with QT, the front propshaft/driveshaft uses a DC.
