Picture request, CJ5s with ACME hardtop

Just bought a tan ACME top for mine, just curious I want to see what the hardtops look like on other CJ5s. People criticize me for not wanting to paint it. My Jeep is dark red, and the tan top looks fine I think. Let me see yours.

As long as you like it, who cares what others think? What color is your interior?

Personally, though, if I had a red jeep, I'd prefer a black, or gray hardtop. White is OK, too.

Hey nice top! I dig the no doors look, mine are off until I get some weatherstripping for them. Your top is in really nice shape, did you restore it? Mine came in great shape, no cracks or damage to the latches, even a sunroof! Since it is such a pain to remove the top, I'll likely pop the doors off during summer. If I could post a pic I would but the forum dosen't let me. Any ideas on where to get weatherstripping? Thanks for the pics guys:thumbsup: BTW my interior is black
What kind of top is the all metal one? I'm looking to buy an early CJ5 with one and want to know who made it. I'll get a picture of it tomorrow.
Can you go through the automatic car wash with an Acme top? Does anyone do it?
I just picked up an Acme hardtop with doors for my '77 CJ-5.

COBRA5LADDICT's Jeep is the nicest looking restored '5 with a hardtop that I have seen. He has also been a huge help in answering my many questions.

Below are some of the "before" pics.

Hopefully, I will have the "after" pics posted within a month or so.

Here is a picture of the Jeep that the top is for:

Here are a few pics as I found it.

Here are a few pics after I rescued it:

I think I am going to paint the inside and out of the top a grey/charcoal color, and paint the doors black as I think that it would be too much black, if the top was too.

Here is an updated dirty picture of the interior/seats.

Please excuse the mess...

I'll be working on my Hardtop hat has been in storage as soon as possible. Would apreciate it if somebody could post some pic's of the inside.
Is that the part that goes over the windshield?
It looks strange.

I have a black top and the doors but it's not installed, having trouble locating the door latch hardware and catch for the door that mounts on the top.
Here's a pic:

Yeah, that is the part that mates to the WS frame. I haven't had a chance to test fit the top yet, but thought that part of the top looked kinda strange. Can you snap a pic of the front edge of your HT, and post it? Thanks!
Yes, that was confusing for me also. Mine looked like it attached through the sun visor mounts. but that left a gap on the outside. I don't know if it was hacked previously.

Here is the Slam Latch you Need: Passenger Restraint Latches - All Latches - 206 Series - Eberhard Manufacturing

Call them to find the closest dealer to you.

I found the back of my top was pushed in from being stored on the rear hatch for so long. This summer I put some clamps in place to push it back out hopefully.
john,

so your top looks like BrockGrimes at the windshield frame? i thought for sure someone modified his (no idea why) if yours is also modified too maybe this was another mold type acme used.. to me it looks to unfinished to be factory but i have been wrong before. does your cut appear factory or home done. i would be curious to see how the draw clasp latches sinch the top to the windshield frame. this is how mine looks

this is a picture of another acme top i have for sale it is the same as all the other acme tops i have seen or owned on my tan top you can see the foam weatherstripping between the top and the frame and on this top it is missing so you can see how different the mold is

Yes Mine is like Brocks. That explains a lot of fitments problems I have.

The top of my top is the red line and the bottom of the lip drops all the way to the green line.
Looks like it was hacked but the rest fits nicely, I cant see it sitting up another 2"

But the top sits as low on the window frame as yours.:

Are your bottom edges sealed also? Mine are not.

But the doors fit and rear hatch fits nicely

Hard to say but mine looks like it has a raised section in the rear like STK's

Yes, someone added a gutter on mine above the doors.

huh.. never seen an acme top like that before.. must have just been a different mold from acme. if the inner lip drops all the way to the green line you must just through bolt your top through the lip of fiberglass and then into the windshield frame? not using draw clasps like i have right? looks like it fits nice. FYI all of my bottom edges are sealed like the top was made in an inner and outer shell then bonded together.
If I could post a pic I would but the forum dosen't let me.

Thanks for the pics guys:thumbsup:
Just download them to photobucket (it's free), then cut and paste the IMG (image) tag into your post. It will work...I promise!

No problemo w/ the pics! These '5 hardtop pics are hard to find info on, and I wish we could have the mods merge all the hardtop threads, and make it a sticky...hint, hint! ;)

What kind of top is the all metal one?

I could be wrong, but I think the metal top and doors on the pre '75 CJ's were a factory option, and that a company called Orville or Meyer also made them. Through all of my searches for more info on '5 HT's, I have also seen several different models, but cannot recall some of the other name brands. Check out earlycj5.com, and if you don't have an account, you can create one easily, then do a search...you'll be shocked of the info you will find there.

Lets see the pic you promised us!

It's a Jeep...you are not supposed to wash them...they will melt!

Not sure on this, I suppose it would depend on how well your top is sealed up.

What kind of interior pics do you want to see? Let us know, and I bet that between all of us that are active users, and own one of these cool tops, we can hook it up!

I am starting to think that this could be a different Acme mold, although the unfinished edges really do look awful compared to the finished ones. I inspected mine closely after seeing all of this discussion, and mine appears that it still could have been a hack job, but looks exactly like John's.

What kind of fitment problems have/had you experienced?

My bottom edges (under the back side windows) are not sealed either.

It looks like your top and doors fit good, I can only wish that mine goes together that good.

What "raised section" are you referring to on mine?

you must just through bolt your top through the lip of fiberglass and then into the windshield frame?
On the front edge that marries to the windshield frame, mine appears to have screw holes spanning the entire length...as if that is how it was secured to the WS frame.

What type of adjustments can you make when doing a fitment test? I assume the door hinges have a little play, and maybe the amount of foam used in the seals?

Is there anyother ways to adjust the fitment?

Thanks again gents, really appreciate all the info being shared here!

:cheers2:

I have the same longer inside lip on my Acme top like SKT and John. Mine is thru bolted using the visor hardware. Seals tight with no leaks.

One other tid bit, the struts for a 1995 tahoe are the perfect length and pressure for the acme lift glass to.........

Would you be so kind as to post some pics of your's too?

The more the better.

This is really must have been a differnet mold as Cobra mentioned!

Lastly, if anyone wants more pics of my setup, just let me know.

Thanks again all!!!
