That's right, I am FINALLY making my build thread! I have been modding this Jeep for three years now so I have a lot of catching up to do. Just bare with me, because this is going to take some time to get through. I will start from the beginning and try not to miss anything. :2thumbsup:

It all started in 2004 when I saw the beast that AEV and SuperLift made.

Not only did it look awesome, but it boasted some incredible performance. A Jeep Grand Cherokee with QDII coupled to a HEMI! I had to have it! Unfortunately, being a lowly military man also trying to support a family I could not afford a $45K vehicle, let along the $5K+ for the lift tires and other goodies.

Finally after the market took a crap in late 08 the time had come! I started looking around and pricing the different models and option. By then the CRD had also come out which I wanted more than the Hemi, but I could not find one in Cali  I found a few in other states, but they were too far away and more than I could afford. So I ended up scoring a 2005 Limited with every option available that year and 40K miles for $16K! It seemed no one wanted to buy a big Hemi powered vehicle at that time, so local dealers were pricing them very low. Even a year after I bought it I couldn't find a better deal

This was the day I brought it home!

Yes it is dirty because I insisted on swinging by a trail on the way home to test out 4lo! I wanted to make sure the t-case and ELSDs were working properly. :D In fact the first mod I made was to remove the front air dam before I hit the trail.

So I was browsing S4xc today and came across this:
http://www.saguaro4xcomponents.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=63

They must have just added this to their arsenal but I was wondering:
do you get royalty kickbacks for this?
I wondered the same thing when I seen this.
Ya they just posted that, but I have known about it for a while am have actually been sitting on pics for about a month now. Although it is a hidden winch system like mine, it is not the same design. I am sure it is a very sturdy and great system for the masses and if you are unable to make your own then this is your best option. My big complaint is the mounting orientation of the winch. Because they had to design a system that would work for most winches of varying sizes and to meet the needs of everyone, they had to mount the winch foot forward. The mounting orientation was a big part of my plans when I was designing mine. I have mine mounted foot down for easy access to the lock/unlock lever and the drum in case of tangles and other issues that might arise. AEV mounted theirs foot up and S4xC mounted their foot forward. What this mean is with the AEV design you have to reach under the bumper to reach the lever and drum which will be facing down. With the S4xC design you have to reach under the bumper as well but it is not facing down like the AEV design, it is facing inboard. So you have to reach under the bumper and back towards the radiator to reach the lever or the drum. This was a situation I did not want to get myself into. Too many times I have seen guys stuck in bad situations off road and most of the time the winch is sitting right on top of the bumper so it is easy to reach and mess with. You don't ever get to choose how and where you get stuck! So if you get stuck where you bumper is up against a rock or ledge or a log or any other obstacle, you are screwed because you cannot reach under your bumper! I brought this up to them when I saw their design, but it seems they are fine with it the way it is. If any of this even makes any sense :D

Saw that on the WK/XK page. I was wondering the same thing as AJ. Also it looks like it would be a pain to get to the clutch handle.
Yep that's what I was talking about. It would be even more difficult if even possible with you bumper pinned against an obstacle. And if your line gets tangled or you have an issue with the drum, you have to lay down under the bumper to fix it!

I definately see what you're saying. For this same reason I like to at least tie my spare down in the folded down rear seats or put it up top when I go wheeling. Like you say - you never know how or where you're going to get stuck and the same applies with blowin a tire out.
Very true! I don't like my spare in either of those positions which it why I chose to spend money on a set of bullet proof tires. With these things I shouldn't ever have to use my spare :D But I still carry a spare because you never really know.
A way to not have to worry about where the engage lever is located is to wire on an onboard winch controller and just use the motor to release line instead of free spooling if you are in a location where you can not access the lever. Yes, it is annoying and more time consuming to have to use the motor to feed the line but this is a solution to the problem. And you can make someone pull the line while stay inside the vehicle. :D
I know you can power the line out, but as you said it sucks and no one wants to do it. Which is why I took so much time planning mine out to do it right and the way I wanted it to be. I am not saying the S4xC set up is bad and that no one should buy it, I am just pointing out a flaw that a buyer should be aware of before buying. It is great that they made the system because up until now you had to make it yourself or pay someone to do it for you.

Also so everyone knows the factory crossmember that you have to remove is available to purchase! I have seen them on eBay and RockAuto. Which mean you can instal a hidden winch system and if you have to buy a newer WK later on, you can remove the winch cradle and instal a factory crossmember to bring the front end back to stock. I know that was a concern for some. :D

RockAuto $45

That is pretty sweet! How much does that kit go for? I am not seeing a price.
Lets just say their email response time is not in days :tea:.

These winches are not Australian either, so may be other vendors local. The mako TDS 9.5 winch was rated pretty highly in a magazine comparo down here.

Im trying to see if i can adapt it to my new 9.5cti which arrive in 2 weeks :2thumbsup:

Dave
Not that I was planning on getting it, I just wanted to know price.

So why are you getting a new winch? You break your Magnum?
No, wanted to upgrade to the contactor pack and newer style motor, Magnum has done 4 yrs now of hard work, can't fault her but just though it was time to retire it.

Dave
I see! Well good luck with your new one! I love new toys :D
I have been enjoying watch King Of The Hammers videos the past couple of days. I wanted to share this one of Shannon Campbell and his awesome machine making it look easy!

If I had unlimited funds I would so build a KOH WK! How AWESOME would that be!!!
That would be pretty sick! I could watch KOH vids for hours on end lol.

I added a couple more stickers!!!

And another wheel shot!

Sexy. Now you just have to relief machine those into the spokes on the rims........

Dave
I know! But for now this works and is cheaper :D

Ok I need some input from you guys! I want to through a little color into this thing. Originally I wanted to do red. Like paint my calipers and other little things. But that seems to be the fall back color a lot. So I am thinking one of these.

Hemi Orange:

Or Monster Green:

I am leaning more towards the orange mainly because I feel the green has kind of been over done lately in the industry (although I still love it). I am just not sure how well it would look with the Jeep being Khaki, Graphite, and Black.

Which ever color I choose I will most likely paint my calipers and suspension components like the coils, control arms, and maybe the rear diff cover. I am sure I will throw it in on little thing around the Jeep as well. I am also planning on painting my radiator!
