Just a follow up to the milk shake oil. Took the tunnel apart and sure enough. There was no rubber over shifter lever. Water was just dumping in there when he drove in the rain. Purchased one from quad and that should fix that.

Changed the gear oil again. So far, it's doing better on the down shifts. Thanks for all the ideas.

He put the gear oil back in.
It shifts up good. But from 3rd to 2nd nope.
Told him one day we will pull it and find a shop that rebuilds these old manuals.
