Never owned a jeep before and want to add a suspension/lift kit with larger tires and wheels to my 2006 4X4 Jeep Wrangler. Want something that will be safe. Are certain brands better than others? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Which '06 model do you have (ex: "Rubicon", "X", etc.)? Also, fill out your profile info. so people can see what you are dealing with.

Other questions:

What kind of wheeling are you planning on doing (if any)?
Is the Jeep going to be more of a daily driver, strictly offroad, or a little bit of both?
How much lift are you wanting to go?
How big of a tire are you looking to run?
What kind of money are you looking to spend on lift, tires, etc.?

Those are some key factors to consider and once you figure out the answers, it will be a good start for us to help you. Also, use the search function and there are TONS of threads about lifts, tires, etc. that will help you figure out which direction you want to head and/or give you an idea along with provided details about your options.

With out knowing specifics of your jeep I would say research 2" budget boosts and/or 1" body lifts.

They are the easiest way to go IMHO and in the case of the BL it can be used for further upgrades down the road. Almost all manufacturers make a budget boost 2" kits that come with shocks run about $250 shipped or so. You should be able to fit 32x11.5x 15" tires without much issue depending on your stock gearing. You could probably do 33" if you did the BB and BL at the same time for 3" of lift. Neither should mess up your factory ride or have major effects on your wallet. I'm getting ready this summer to install a RE 2" BB with rubicon springs ( doesn't really give you a lift on a sport model, but figured the 10,000 miles on them has to be better than the 90,000 on mine) My sport has the 3.73 gears so I'm thinking the 32's or 33x10.5x15. If I go with 33's I'll add the BL. I don't want to wheel my TJ, but it might replace my CJ7 down the road.

Sorry, I'm really clueless about this Jeep. It's for my high school son and I know he will probably do some off roading, but it will be his daily driver, so that will be it's main use. It's a 2006 Wrangler X, 4X4 with a soft top. We don't want to add anything more than a 3 inch lift. We're definitely doing a suspension lift. He would like 33's. Would like to be no higher than $1200 to get everything we need. With that said, are certain brands of lifts better than others?

Does that $1200 include wheels and tires? Cheapest easiest way to do it is 2" BB +1.25/1.5" body lift. That'll give him good clearance for 33's. If you want to go with a wider than 10.5" tire, you'll need new wheels or spacers too. As mentioned above you can do 33's with a 2" bb only, but he'll rub offroad. That is what I run, but I trimmed my flares to reduce rubbing, and I don't go offroad every other week, like some of these guys do...:)

A BB is a waste of money when for $50 more, you can get an RC 2.5" spring lift.

and for a few hundred more you can get a quality OME or RCD kit...the one you'll end up buying after finding the QC problems with RC.

x2, WTF.

Your not going to be happy with 1200 bucks worth of lift, wheels, and tires. I spent 1800 on my 5 wheels and tires, then another 3000 on my lift. you get what you pay for, that being said, i would suggest a 1.25 inch body lift and a 1 inch spacer lift, then stick to 32's. that could be done for 1200 bucks, and you wont need to regear, but with 33's i would suggest regearing and that costs 1000 bucks and up depending on what you go with and who you have do the work.
