I'll be moving to Grand Forks this summer and getting the CJ ready.

Looking at a block heater, will this be enough?

Any tips on tires? I have swampers and they slide all over on ice and snow. Was looking at Cepek Mud Country...or chains/cables?

How bad really are the winters?

Block heater will be plenty. Roads get more icy than anything. I ran
hercules avalanch extremes with studs. Work awesome. Just make sure
your cj has great heat! And welcome to the dakotas!

Thanks, will look into studs, maybe I can find a used. I may get some ATs if nothing else as the swampers i have now are terrible on ice.

Heat is stock, may have to do the blazer blower motor upgrade and look for a hardtop.

It was -47° below last thursday in dickinson. My buddy put those cepeks on his dodge cummins and I wasnt impressed with them at all in snow and ice. What size rims do you have? I live south of grand forks just over south dakota border.

I am running a 33 12.50 mickey thompson mtz on my cherokee, seems to do pretty well, ice is an issue with just about any tire.
cherokee ftw is a friend of mine, and he is running the 33 12.50 wrangler duratracs on his cherokee. he doesnt seem to have issues either. I am running 410 gears, and he is running 456.

Yeah, I say not many MT's do good on ice. Just smart driving. ;)

My MT's suck in the ice and snow. If you have done the chevy blower motor swap you will fine for heat. I'm in Grand Forks as well
