I do use Google Maps.

I have used it without data and with a Hotspot.

Well obviously you need data at some point to install it. So before I had a Hotspot setup, I would just download things in my driveway using my home WiFi. Using Google Maps you can download as much as you can handle. I would generally just download my city. With Google Maps it just has to connect to WiFi once every 30 days to update the downloaded areas.

It would work great with the GPS, now of course you would not get real time traffic data.

While using that setup I would just turn on my phones hotspot if I was in need of real-time information

Recently I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile and also got their SyncUp and Drive hotspot that connects via the OBD2.

It works great and basically comes on anytime I start the Jeep. So I constantly have real time data.

It will also come with a "trial" (probably bootleg) copy of iGo maps, which does not require a data signal.

I have also used Waze which more or less needs a data signal.

I used Here WeGo as well, I believe it worked fine without data as long as you download maps.

However Google Maps is by far my favorite and in my opinion works the best. It is the only one that gives you a pop up showing your next turn so you do not need to have Maps on the main screen.

For those on T-Mobile, the Sync UP and Drive is great:

So i recently switched to T-Mobile, and one thing I picked up was the SyncUp Drive:

https://explore.t-mobile.com/t-mobile-sync-up-drive

It adds a hot spot and it gives vehicle data with this app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.moj.mobile.android.motion&hl=en

It is pretty cool.

I was overly excited and ran out to the Jeep to set it up before taking pictures. So most of these pics were in the Jeep with the dome light on.

This one was inside the house, this is the package

Here is the actual device,

it is a large OBD2 adapter that you put a SIM card in, so it makes its own Hostpot and links to this cool app

I didn't put any information about my Jeep in, it just figured it all out on its own

Then you can click on the recalls

And the Service Bulletins

And you can get more Jeep info

You can set your own HotSpot name:

And at least for me, T-Mobile has pretty great coverage and speeds

A few questions about the JY-JL001N2.

First and for most . . . . . .Will it work in my 09 JK with the upgraded Infinity amp/speaker system?

I use ITunes to subscribe and autodown load several podcast. I looks like this unit does not play with Ipods. Whats a good way to get podcasts on this unit.

I see you can have two cameras attached to this unit. Can you display the front camera video why driving? Good for off roading and spotting.

Thanks

Is the dash hole the same on a 2009 as a 2011 to 2017?

Yeah, iPod will not work, but you could download any Podcast app from the Play Store on the Joying, like Pocketcasts or Podcast Addict. Or you could have them on your phone and listen via Bluetooth.

You should be able to do the camera thing

Yes the hole is the same, that is not what I'm worried about. I want to make sure it works with the Infinity powered speakers and Sub.

It is kind of a crapshoot, as far as the default connection. Although I think the newer system is more likely to be the issue.

No matter what you can get it to work if you use a PAC module like I did in that review

When I ordered mine through Amazon, joying contacted me to find what kind of amp my 09 GC had. They wanted to make sure it would work. If you email them they will let you know

I currently have their newest 7" in DBL DIN hooked up.
1 - The front camera I believe can only be the one from Joying.(taking their word on that, havent tried others) Not sure about it displaying while driving, but I know for sure it will record.
2 - I am going to replace my amp, but it is currently connected to my infinity amp

As always google is your friend. A simple google search had found several posts on other jeep forums that the JY-JL001N2 does work with the Infinity amp/speaker system:smile2:

The head unit I currently have is the stock single CD unit. It no longer ejects the CD, and the vol knob does not work very well.

So just about anything would be a improvement then my current radio.

This is not Joying specific, but it is cool*

Recently there were app updates that allowed integration between Spotify and Waze

Once you link your apps together, you get the Spotify icon in the top of Waze:

And in Spotify, you get to see your directions at the top of the screen:

My 8 inch Joying JY-UL138N2 was running fine, playing music and out of nowhere, it just went to a black screen and was just dead. It did not come back on.

It is worth noting that itwas the 4th or 5th day in a row of a massive heat wave. And my Jeep sat for probably 8 hours in direct sunlight, so when I got in my Jeep it was in the upper 90s outside, probably well over 100 degrees inside the Jeep.

So my theory was that it just overheated. I tried pressing the RST button and what looks to be a power button next to it, and neither had any response at all.

Joying Black Screen

When I took it out, i noticed it still got power to the PAC, just not the Joying, and the fuse didn't do anything:

Joying Removal

It worked fine until last week, and it just quit in the middle of me driving. It was the middle of summer death heat stroke week in KY, so I feel like it over heated and fried something

And after 3 days of nothing, I was ready to pull my hair out, and I know stuff from China takes one or two weeks to ship AFTER all the communication, so I decided to get myself an Android Auto unit in the meantime:

Sony XAV-AX100

And it sounds great, but i really miss a big screen and having full access to Android.

So I ordered the Seicane unit:

10.1 inch HD Touch Screen for Jeep Wrangler

However, the next day Joying said they would ship me their 10 inch unit. So I have two different 10 inch units coming.

Seicane - has the dash kit so it looks like it is part of the Jeep, software is kind of an unknown, getting mixed responses about microsd card support

Joying - will look like a tablet slapped on the dash, but I'm familiar with their software and this new unit has a built in amplifier and DSP

I'm pretty excited about trying them both out

Looking forward to your review of the Seicane. I would also rather go with a Joying due to my past experiences with their units and support but really like the idea of a stock look.

I thought about getting the Seicane unit, but the fact they advertise Android 6 all over the product page when it's clearly Android 5 doesn't give me a lot of confidence. I get that it's China and the language translation is going to be laughably bad, but there's a huge difference between Android 5 and 6 in terms of app support, not to mention both are old anyway and Android 7 is about to become that way, too.

It'd be cool if you could just get the dash pieces without the embedded tablet and just build your own.

Here is a video about wiring a PAC harness to a Joying.

The same principles would apply to Seicane or Dasaita. And if the default harness doesn't work with the Alpine and/or Infiniti, it will definitely work with a PAC.
