For a while now the interior light doesn't come on when the doors are opened.

The light in the back hatch area also doesn't work. Could this be related?

Does that function stop when a light in the ceiling burns out?

Or is it a fuse or a relay? (probably one of these.)

I've got the inside kind of taken apart so I'm trying to fix all the gremlins at once.

I played with the switches on two of the doors and it didn't make the interior lights go on or off.

There is a fuse for the interior lights on the right side below the dash, in the side wall. There is a little pop-out cover door and behind it is the fuse block.

Yes, which one is it that controls the interior lights that open with the doors? The interior lights work find manually, except the back hatch one, it seems to burnt out.

If they work manually then the fuse is fine. If the fuse was blown they wouldn't work at all.

The relay for the lights in the BCM is probable bad. You can switch it with the cigarette lighter relay to see if this allows the lights to come on when the doors are open.
For some reason the circuit was designed to allow you to manually turn the lights on by-passing the automatic relay. Since you are working on the over-head, now is the chance to check these wires to the hatch light.If you pull the plastic molding holding the hatch light make sure you WARM the plastic all the way across first or the plastic holding the metal clips will break off due to the cold.

The rear hatch light bulb may be bad or the plug wires broken/dirty, a common problem.

Thanks for the info. What is the BCM? Is that the panel in the passenger side right footwall? Is there a part number or description for the relay that controls the on/off for interior lights from the door being open? If it's not the one in the passenger kick panel, then where is it? I figure I just have to chance a relay, but not sure which one and where it is.

The BCM is the Body Control Module.

The relay is located in the interior junction block on the passenger foot well.

Are you saying that a burned out bulb in the rear hatch light will cause the others to not go on/off when the doors open?

I see the diagram. So you say it's the "courtesy lamp relay" where I should check first?

I don't think I even have anything in that spot... that's weird isn't it? I just installed the fog lights so I switched a relay in another spot. Can I use the relay that was in the fog light socket in the socket for the "courtesy lamp relay"? Or do I need to buy a new one.

I can easily buy a new one but O'Reilly doesn't know which one it is. So I need a part number or link.

I put an old relay, probably the old fog lamp relay into the courtesy lamp socket, and it worked. Now my lights turn on.

These are 5 prong relays not 4, 3 smaller prongs on the bottom. I will post a photo when my camera battery recharges.

Here's what the cigarettes' lighter relay looks like. It works in the courtesy lamp relay socket too. It seems that all of those similar size relays are interchangeable, but call your Jeep dealer to ask them before you try it and fry a circuit.
