Well folks, I said I was going back to an XJ so that's what I did. Just a recap on my previous Jeeps...

My first XJ the day I sold it. 95' Sport 5 speed...

My second.... 87' Waggy XJ w/ factory 44 and HP non disco 30. Wish I kept this one...

And of course, my TJ I just recently sold....

Well after my TJ, I started looking for my next XJ. I knew I wanted a 97'+, so that's what I went after. While searching craigslist, I came across a 99' with 130k miles. Girl that owned it said it needed a radiator. All it really needed was a cap. Talked her down to $1600 and brought it home. Had some awesome seat covers and looked and smelled like an ash tray inside...

Jeep Jam is in Harrisonburg is this coming weekend and Fun Ford weekend is in Richmond the following, my gf and I are taking her GT. I am shooting for the 22nd for Crozet. It's an open wheeling day. Any way you can make it that weekend?
22nd is a go!!! What's next weekend?

Ill have to add some things to the list like the ball joints. I moved the holes and trimmed my rear lowers and beefed everything up and shot squats nicely now. The rear is about as good as it will get. Looking into some felt tubes and maybe sliders. Need a deal!

Cool! Nwxt weekend is Jeep Jam. A local dealership puts it on and it's just a show with some small courses to run.
Wait 35's, auto and 3.55's? Man I hate my 5speed 31's and 3.07's...can't really use 5th on the highway at 65mph lol.

I just swapped in 3.55 axles

I used to have an XJ on 31's that was a 5 speed. The 3.07's weren't bad, but weren't ideal. My 99' is real peppy, and with the auto, it's not that bad. 4.56's or 4.88's would be better, but since I don't DD it, it really isn't worth it.

I would have liked to put more angle to it but I don't think the rear passengers would be to comfy with a tire in their seat... :D
So it takes up most/all of your cargo area while blocking all view out your rear window?

I love your enthusiasm and your Jeep is awesome, but that doesn't seem all that well thought out.

And how do you keep road crap from being flung inside?

Thanks. Yup, it takes up my cargo room. It's a trail rig, I never put anything in there except maybe a few tools. As for blocking my view, almost every rear bumper mounted tire carrier blocks your view, so what's the difference? I would never mount a tire on the roof cause, well, that's stupid. If you wheel any, it makes a hell of a difference in weight distribution and fawking up your center of gravity. And believe it or not, not much is flung inside. Again, it's a toy, not my DD, so it's not a big issue to me.

MO FUGGIN' UPDATEZZZ!!!

Ok, well, not really.

Went to a local Jeep event, Jeep Jam, and ran their course. Had fun and got some sweet unirail scars.....

AND THEEEEN I cut my front doors off. Went by the way that dcorn said to do it and had decent success. No pics at the moment but I'll be wheeling Crozet this weekend so I'll get some then. And no I still haven't welded the 8.25. Might do that Friday!

So your stock d30/c8.25 29spline? I'm really thinking about going to 35's and gearing my D30 and getting chromos. Any fears of busting shafts or bending the housing or anything?

Nope. If I could get the vids off my Facebook (Anyone know how to do that? I'm computarded sometimes....) I could show you that my axles have been jumped, they have been beat on hard in dry rock, and have had some skinny pedal action a few times. I'm not worried yet, though I will go chromos or possibly RCV's in the 30 sometime, probably when these break.
Another thing, don't get skinny pedal happy at full lock, especially if you have a locker. It's a grrrrreaaaat way to shear off ears.

SOOOO we wheeled at Crozet this weekend and had a lot of fun. Beat up the rockers a lot more, so sliders are in the near future. I was trying the hard line at Pete's Demise and got to getting heavy on the skinny pedal and bouncing the front. The 30 spit a driver side u-joint which proceeded to bend up an ear on the shaft. Replaced it in half an hour and kept wheeling. I also bent the tie rod so I will be ordering steering this week. Here is da pics....

Broked

fixed

i like your policy break it, fix it with something heavyer
So what steering did you go with?
Thanks! I'm going to replace it with the Iron Rock steering. I like the heims and the fact that it is a crossover steering setup.
What did you do about the bent ear?
What did you do about the bent ear?
I'll have to trash it. It's more than bent, its wallowed out too. I'll have to get some pics up of the shaft.
