Well folks, I said I was going back to an XJ so that's what I did. Just a recap on my previous Jeeps...

My first XJ the day I sold it. 95' Sport 5 speed...

My second.... 87' Waggy XJ w/ factory 44 and HP non disco 30. Wish I kept this one...

And of course, my TJ I just recently sold....

Well after my TJ, I started looking for my next XJ. I knew I wanted a 97'+, so that's what I went after. While searching craigslist, I came across a 99' with 130k miles. Girl that owned it said it needed a radiator. All it really needed was a cap. Talked her down to $1600 and brought it home. Had some awesome seat covers and looked and smelled like an ash tray inside...

I need to brace my steering box badddd.

While your at it, I would look into lower control arms, longer brakelines, and trim the back of the shock mounting plate for LCA clearance to maximize your droop. The LCOG setup is looking good, and if you do some of those things you can unlock even more potential from the shortarms. Stock LCA's are a huge limiting factor in a small lift/big tire setup like this.

Looks really good though! I should have bought 35's!
Thanks man! I relocated the front brake lines and as for control arms, I think I am going to stay short arm. My angles aren't bad and I can get the flex I need. I will eventually either build some or buy some Currie's or Clayton's with Johnny Joints. But for now I have other, more important things to work out. Stock arms aren't as bad as people make them out to be. The bushings in them last almost forever and being made of stamp steel they have some flex, which isn't a bad thing.
They are awful man. I've bent a few and it will mess up a ride home for sure

Oh, I'm sure. There isn't much to them. I just haven't bent one yet.

Ive never bent one but have no idea how haha. The only problem I have with them is that they max out and limit droop. But I can certainly understand having more pressing issues. My Jeep has needed brake work since day one. Now Im a decent way into my build and I still havent touched them!

Keep up the good work, looking good. Curious to see how well the 8.25 handles the 35's.
Get a Tire Rod from IRO..it's beef!

I bounced on the 8.25 a good bit but it's unlocked. However, if it goes, I got an 8.8.

So I got some of these from diybeadlocks.com and painted them....

then made some bumpstops from hockey pucks....

and now I can flex like this. No, it isn't rubbing anywhere.

My only complaint is that they are 1/4". I think he has a 3/8" option, and I should have opted for that. I am a little worried about the plates bending so I may brace them to the axle tube.

Arms, get some aftermarket short arms. 16.5" fixed length & adjustable uppers if you can. Adjustable uppers set your caster, and the 16.5" lowers, are the longest fixed lowers offer, but they will give you a .5" stretch...not much bit hey! Or I believe you could run OEM JK arms, they are like 17.xx or something & are bent to clear wide tires. That'd be a cheap option as well.

I have a 3" lift, my lowers are set at 18.5"..2.5" stretch it rides 10x better and flexs better..I used to rub the back of the fender well at full lock and it was limiting me. My uppers were set at 16.5 & adjusted slightly longer to correct caster.
My concerns go to the axle. Outer C's, upper control arm mount and possibly sleeving it to help hold the 35's.

Theres a set of Dunlop mud rovers for sale for 200 bucks by me to..35's about 60% of tread.
But then I need a tire carrier that will hold a spare, cuz my factory swing out won't:(

I've wheeled stock 30's on 35's a good bit. The main concern is the shafts and ring and pinion.
Well I could get used to the low gearing...or are you talking strength wise?
I have a 5speed and 3.55's, 3.55's & 35's will be almost identical to 31's & 3.07's. Which isn't to bad..but I would regear once the rest of my rig is done.
Strength wise may become a problem...its more of a camping/ExPo rig, but I do some mild/moderate trails. Shafts just got spicer 760X's but I've been looking for chromos..I'm truely thinking about running 35's lol.

My D30 is sleeve, boxed upper CA mount, CA mini skids & gusseted outer sleeves.

So I got the diybeadlocks.com bumpstop plates installed....

And I went ahead and made some braces since I thought they would bend....

I'm totally happy with this setup. Works awesome, no rubbing. I do, however, need to put another washer behind the steering stops. I got a little lca lovin' from the tires. Also, I NEED TO GET SOME SHOCKS IN THE BACK!!!!! Crozet also did some bodywork. I'll get more pics of that later, but I need to do some rocker replacement.
At least your out wheelin . Looks good

Yup! I got to get used to this Jeep. Been a while since I have wheeled an XJ!
