Well folks, I said I was going back to an XJ so that's what I did. Just a recap on my previous Jeeps...

My first XJ the day I sold it. 95' Sport 5 speed...

My second.... 87' Waggy XJ w/ factory 44 and HP non disco 30. Wish I kept this one...

And of course, my TJ I just recently sold....

Well after my TJ, I started looking for my next XJ. I knew I wanted a 97'+, so that's what I went after. While searching craigslist, I came across a 99' with 130k miles. Girl that owned it said it needed a radiator. All it really needed was a cap. Talked her down to $1600 and brought it home. Had some awesome seat covers and looked and smelled like an ash tray inside...

So LCog Demigod I have to ask, at 3.5 inches or so lift would it be stupid to make long arms? I am looking at if from a axle drop situation.....
This is what I am going for...

I am skipping the LCA mounts. I see no need for long/mid arms at my height.
not a bad idea, how much higher does that lift the t-case? would be something i would be interested in...

I wouldn't think it's stupid. I personally have never run a set of long arms on any of my rigs. When it comes down to it, you really just want a fairly flat or completely flat control arm angle. With a long arm setup, you can easily achieve that. But, are you planning on buying or building? Almost every manufacture I have seen makes their kits with mounts that are way vulnerable to getting smashed on rocks, and being low doesn't help matters. If you build, a mid arm with low profile mounts would be your best bet. For me, at my height, my control arm angle is plenty tolerable, so I will continue to run short arms for now.

I believe somewhere between 1.5" to 2". I started taking measurements today, but that's one I really didn't pay much attention to. I know I will probably need some floor board clearance done.
You will need correct bump stops to limit up travel running long arms with less than 4" lift with bent arms, straight arms u would need more than 4" lift to keep the arms from hitting undercarriage during up travel, again with proper bump stops amount of lift doesn't matter.

Correct. Bumpstops not only keeps tires out of your fenders, it allows your suspension to function better. Think of a see saw. Once the axle hits the stop, the other side begins to droop.
Yeah but that doesn't mean you can't try for every bit of up travel for whoops and bump. Personally I have 5 up and 7 down in the rear, if I came down really hard, I could really feel a big jAr. I would like to run 14 inch coilovers and a set of air bumps.

Definitely try for all the up travel you can. I have been reading a lot lately and am figuring out what I though was good isn't. By spring, I'll be changing a lot of things in my suspension.

On a side note, James! You going to Crozet the 15? I want to, just not sure if it's going to happen yet.
Thank you sir, I will have think the pob will be to make the mounts like you said....
Hey - that skid fab on the NAXJA link looks solid! One thing I would add to it is make a bracket that bolts the driver side of the "hoop" to your driver stiffener.

If you don't, then any impact to the tailend of the skid is just transfering load to the four mounting bolts of the x-member. It'll make the skid pivot on those. That's alotta stress on the skid /xmember bolts. Add some connection points to the driver side rail - it'll be pretty stout!
Yeah, that is kinda what I'm thinking. Strength is what I'm trying to figure out how to get right. I just want to build it right the FIRST time lol.
Got the auto XJ shaft in. It fits, but it's stretched out pretty good and on flat ground you can almost see the splines. I might end up with a ZJ shaft in the near future.
I'm going to make an all America effort. I need to re work some things before then so we shall see Colton!

Cool. I am trying to go myself. I got finals through Wednesday and work the rest of the week. Not munch wrenching left to do.

On a side note, I picked up a full set of control arms over the weekend. They are slightly used, but in good shape. They are unfortunately Rubicon Express non adjustables, but the lowers do have flex joints. My stock arms are shot, so basically anything is an upgrade. Best part is, I got them for $50. I'll run these until I decide 100% where I want to go with my front suspension.
Niceee
Score! My stock arms are starting to get destroyed. Flimsy crap haha

Yeah, doesn't take long in the rocks. These aren't my first choice by a long shot, but they will get me by for a while.
$50 bux cant go wrong, They will do perfect until you go LAs!!!
No long arms. I want to do a mid arm 3 link or just Currie or Savvy short arms w/ Currie JJ's at each end. My current CA angles are fairly good.
