Hey guys,
So I bought an old 99 TJ off a friend a few months ago. Decided to tackle a problem with the blower not turning off.
Pretty much the whole hvac cluster doesnt respond, other than the temp control.
Cant turn it off, just blows on high constantly. PO said he was "having problems" and "grounded it" to get it working.
I changed the relay, the blower sensor relay, and the blower motor. Same issues persist.
Any ideas.. there is some melting on the connector that plugs into the position switch, and while im sure thats a problem, doesn't explain why i cant turn it off, or change fan speed.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem. I changed out the relay and the control panel. Connector is known to overheat and melt causing a bad connection. Worked fine after I changed it. When you pull the control panel you should see the part number on the back. Make sure you get the right one. I beleive that mopar wants around $250.00 for a new one but I was able to buy a good used one online for more than half the price.

I'll check the voltage. Fuse 8 is for the instrument cluster isn't it? But I guess the HVAC should have 12 as well.... I'll let you know.
Yeah changed relay, twice. Nothing. Even found the PO's "ground wire" and snipped it, nothing changed lol.

Thanks for the diagram. :laugh2:

Does it stay on when the key is on but go off when the key is off?

I see what appears to be a black wire leaving then returning to the harness on the left side of the last photo. It does not look OEM. That might be the cause depending on what it is connected to.

That was the ground wire the PO put in. Goes to a frame screw behind the glove box. I disconnected it, nothing changed.

Turns off when key is off, turns on when key is on. But I can't turn it off or down with controls.

Still gotta check the voltages, been working on the clutch. Heaters no good if the Jeep doesn't run. 😅

OK, that says the relay is working by cutting 12v power to the blower when the key is off. So you have the blower "permanently" grounded & since you only have high speed & you can't switch it lower that says the ground is either in the brown/tan wire that goes between the speed switch & the resistor or from the resistor over to the blower connector, black wire, I think.
