The tailgate regulator in my '76 Wagoneer is broken.....the crank handle just spins....and I tried to get the regulator out.....I succeeded in removing all the screws holding it in, but I can't separate the arms from the tracks in the glass. Looking inside, I understand the setup, but I can't get at the locking washers to remove them, and I certainly couldn't reinstall them. In looking at instructions online, all i can see is talk of cutting large holes in the tailgate skin with a hole saw in order to gain access.....which terrifies and horrifies me....I'm supposed to take a perfectly good rust-free tailgate and cut it open to get out the old regulator??? If that's the case, I'm almost sorry I even started this Wagoneer project. Does anyone know of any other approach?
