i did a lot of JF research and found a lot of info on homebrew snorkels so figured to try my hand(and welder and grinder) to make my first one.
its turned out better than id hoped for also but the next time will be top of the line.not that anythings wrong with this one..all aluminum 1/8 thich material..
heres some start to finish pics..

after cutting and notching with a skill saw and a jig saw it started comeing together a bit..

im starting to like it better than yesterdays 4 hrs of workin on it..

the next day i all to fit good and solid..tabs are 1x1/4 aluminum flat bar that bolt to the side brackets..its so strong i can grab it anywhere and shake the crap outta the jeep and it dosent move..i sure i could stand on it but wouldnt want to lay it on a pile of rocks to hard lol:thumbsup:

the tubeing inside the grill is cut short so if water enters while a down pour it will have no choice but to run out and down instead of over the tubeing where i left it a 1/2 inch higher when copeing it into the pipe.

not so bad for the first try..im happy with my 30 bucks and about 7 hrs time involved versus 400 bucks that will melt and crack someday:brickwall

its spray painted till i have some stuff to go to the powder coater and then it will get sand blasted and coated satin black 2 times..the paint wont last 1 trip thru some fla trees..

i use a lincoln 255 on low range with a converter box to run a cheap miller 3445 spoolmate spool gun i got from sears..its welded over 150 aluminum entry gates over 5-6 yrs and has payed for itself over and over again..it is getting to the point it needs new cables and hoses soon on the spool gun but for 500 bucks or so its cheaper to get a new one since i make a liveing(slow liveing this yr)with it and dont listen to a boss:laugh:

thanks for the flowers..i originally used a homemade roll and put a slight arch in all the 2x3 tubeing so it would sit on top of the fender and follow the shape of the hood..
then i goofed up by a 1/4 inch so thats why its in line with the fender now.
if i get bored enough being retired do to economy being slow lol,haha i will move it on the fender top again and redo the mounting holes i goofed on a little the first time..the next one will be real sweet since it was a learning experience the first time.

heck it really could be stood on to wash the roof but i dont think i will just yet..i could build and sell them for 400 bucks but..well you know the liability and stuff with stupid people..i could even powder coat them for that price your choice of colors..i guess ive shipped gates to all over the place it really no diffrent..just a lot less shipping hahaha.

i can get some shots late tomorrow if ya like but its not hooked up yet..thats another day or 2 of playing around right..
im thinking of makeing my own canister or useing one from a buick i seen on another post somewhere and moveing everything to the drivers side.
when its on the pass side on the holes in the lower fender its got to have 8-9 fott of crap before it gets air.
on the drivers side i figured its only gonna have the snorkel and 2 ft to the intake.. :thumbsup:now i gotta convert the tranny vent...thats gonna suck for my poor back.:brickwall

just my way of thinkin but its gonna work fine im sure..not that nothins wrong with pvc pipe either..it does work..

Someone one here has used a 4.6L mustang airbox, I think someone else used a escort box. Just some ideas :wave:

How do you open the hood now?

By the looks of the flag you so proudly have displayed I take it you live in Hazard county?

theres 4 linear actuators that fold it forward and tilt kinda like a lamborgini diablo...:rofl:

just kiddin..opens same as before..

have to still finish the air box...the pics with it in front of the flag shows a bracket on the end that bolts to factory hole in the fender beside washer resivoir..
the other 2 are 1/4 inch thick tabs that bolt to the upper windshield frame bolt hole and the lower door hinge bolt hole that are exactly 8 and a half inches apart..stronger than i had imagined..

I think this is the best DIY snorkel I've ever seen. An under hood pic would be nice to see how you tied it into the factory intake.
