After owning my 99 wj (with selec-trac, inline 6, 242 trans, dana 30 front 35 rear, tow package) for 4 years I've decided it's time I give it a build thread, especially with the mods I plan on doing in the next few months

When i first got it back in December of 2010 it had 114k on it and was your typical 99 grand cherokee laredo with the mopar tow package added after the po bought it in 99

This was the weekend of 10/04/2014 (my wj parked next to the 2012 kk my mom bought that same weekend)

and this is the winter of 2011 after I added some wind visors to the window and being a highschool student thought it was "cool" to add some led accents in the empty fog light holes

I plan on building it into an overland-offroad style daily driver as time and money is available as its always tied up in school and my other works in progress

Sweet! Are the end caps on or not? I know typically those rust out first. Might also just be the angle of the photo too, not sure.
Nope, I ditched the caps as one of them was missing when I found them at the junkyard. They really cause all sorts of problems with how much dirt/water they hold so I decided to use gap filler to keep dirt / water out of them.

All right finally found a set! I have a 2000, so I'll need to figure out how to mount them too. Where did you get your rivnuts? I've never used them (or heard of them before), but a quick youtube search looks like I need to drill a hole and then somehow (depending on the type of rivnut) crimp it to the metal? I thought all WJ's had the access holes to put the U-nuts on, but there just needed to be a hole drilled for the bolt to go through into the U-nut.

Only the 2001or02?-2004 wjs had them precut. But the rivnuts I ordered from my local Fastenal (supplier of any type of screw bolt or fastener you can imagine) and used the info on wjjeeps.com to get the proper thread and bolt sizes. You can order the rivnuts online from different places as well.

Then to install just mark and drill the proper sized holes and then insert the nutsert. Then take a bolt that threads into that nutsert and another nut that is slightly larger then the bolt so it can spin freely of the threads on the bolt and thread it into the nutsert until it's tight. Then take a wrench on the nut that's loose on the bolt and hold it still while turning the bolt. It will hold nutsert still and essentially flatten the back side down behind the metal you have installed it in.

Finished up the Iron Rock Offroad 2" lift install the other day

Compared to my previous setup with 3/4" spacer front and 10mm spacer in the rear (these were left in, so I netted almost 3" of lift up front and about 2.5 in the rear).

To complete the lift I installed Rough Country N2.0 shocks up front, IRO extended sway bar links all around, and IRO HD adjustable control arms all around.

Pics of new setup:
