Hey SeaLion - Assuming the black straps are for 'just-in-case'... Don't you trust the winch? Also - can yo sumbit a pic of your winch & the support it's bolted to? Thx brethren.

The black straps were "just in case". I have since replaced the straps with a 2x4 framed basket that holds various "junk" required for top removal/switches. The winch is a Harbour Freight winch http://www.harborfreight.com/2000-lb-capacity-geared-winch-5798.html that I bolted to a 2x6 then lag bolted to the door header. I have also recently switch to a bar type lift in place of the blue straps. I have been using this system for 3 years without issue.

A hardtop lift is a must have. Great addition and quick to use. I also added additional straps since my wife parks under it for added security.

Here is one I made. HarborFreight worm drive manual winch. I fabbed up the center pully point so all lines lift at the same rate.

Here is how it is stored when not in use.

I welded a bolt to some scrap steel for the center pulley point.

1x1 steel box tubing with Eye loops added.

About half way raised.
