Fuel gage off after replacing fuel pump

Hey guys, I recently replaced my fuel pump on my 97 TJ. When I replaced it I noticed the gage when the tank is full only reads half a tank, and makes it’s way to “empty” with a half tank still left. It even drops so far down that the gas light turns back off haha. Not sure if there’s any concerns that come with this situation or if I can just adjust the gage without having to worry about adverse effects. Thanks!

Had that on my 98, dropped the tank again and adjusted the sender, ie bent the arm appropriately.
I'd googled my tank part # and it said 19 gallon, turned out actually a 16, don't know if that was the difference, pump unit fitted just fine but sender out. All good now though.
