All the problems started with the replacement of ring/pinion of a Dana 35/ 4.56 ratio. Decision was made to remove the D-troit locker and replace it with an open carrier due to the locker not looking too hot; and the fact the vehicle is currently driven on the road more than offroad unfortunately. Once the NEW YUKON spider gear kit was installed, we got about 69 miles out of it and BANG! Once we got it back home, we opened up differential to find a BROKE pin (the spider gear pin). Never seen anything like it. Pin split and twisted right in the middle. Once we got a new pin in place, it now makes a "thump/thud" sound while ONLY turning right??? I GIVE UP!!! Any suggestions of where to start with this nightmare?
What model year set up? Lift? Tires?
The turdy5 is not a very reliable axle above 31's. Sorry.
I have had the exact problem you did. Never will I run that axle again.
Might be time for an axle upgrade.
Thanks for the suggestion...we are running 33's. 2000 Cherokee Xj. This truck was pieced together by someone else...differential had been rebuilt for racing. We don't race it. We bought it for fun...it hasn't been much fun! ha! OR, we should've kept racing it??? I'm thinking it's pissed we don't take it to the race track anymore...
Its upset for sure. Lol. Look into a Chrysler 8.25 rear. Direct bolt in except for the gears.
A ford 8.8 is better. But either way your gonna have to do gearing work.
Look up how to disc conversions on the 8.25 you'll be very happy
