Have an opportunity to buy a 77 CJ7. 304 v8, 3 spd manual, working 4x4. Has relatively new paint and tires. It runs and drives but seller says it has a few electrical problems that need to be addressed. odometer is broken. Couldn't imagine miles to be too crazy. It's in good shape but has some rust around the windshield, etc. No doors that i know of, and has a bikini top only.

Seller is asking $4000. Of course I need to see it to get a better idea, but it sounds fair.
Thanks!

Thats about what it would likely go for here in NE Kansas.. prices are pretty varied depending on where you are
Lat summer I paid $7000 for my 86 CJ7 with the 304V8, 5 speed and Dana 300. Decent tires and almost no rust, No top

Have any pictures?

I don't have a picture of the back but seller says it has a pretty bad rust spot just under the tailgate. It's gonna need to be patched.Maybe I could bondo it? 😂👍

Do you know if your 304 is original? I heard somewhere they stopped putting them in CJs in 1980 or 81.

The 304 was offered in the CJ's between 72 and 1980. My CJ came from the factory with a 258 I6. The 304 was swapped in sometime before I got it.
AMC used the 304 in numerous vehicles and they are all pretty much the same engine, so its not even a garuantee mine came from a Jeep...
Honestly, the later year 304's produced LESS horsepower than the 258's from the factory.
There is more parts availabillity for the 258 and it is easier to work on. Just throwing that out there so you know..

Where are you located?

I figured that. I'd probably rather have a 258. I have a 258 CJ7 that needs a carburetor linkage (hasn't been run with new carb yet), and 2 4.0s that run great and have 200k+ miles.

I'm in central Texas.

Well, after saying that, there is something about the V8 rumble that just "adds" to having the top off... gotta love it..

Ended up not buying it. The rust on the tailgate is probably something I myself can't fix. Might've been a cheap fix, but oh well, maybe something else will come up 👍

I always thought, if Im not happy with it before I buy it,why woudl I be afterwards??
