I am sure there is already a thread somewhere for this but here is my rendition for making my own. Plus I believe it is stronger and I know it was more than half the price.

> 1 10' stick of unistrut
> 3 3/8" by 12" allthread (to be bent into a J-hook)
> some rubber tubing to slide over the the J-hook to protect the hardtop from the threads
> assorted unistrut fittings to make a tee shape
> 1 5/8" eyebolt
> pipe insulation to wrap around the unistrut to protect the hard top surface
> an electric hoist that I mounted in the attic

hmmmm ....not sure why I have 3 different size pix here but if any one wants I will redo pix
Yea, I'd like to see a write up and some better pics. If you don't/can't repost pics, can you send them to neobit at gmail dot com? Thanks!
will do a repost later...sorry for the pix
hmm, that is an awsome set up.

my garage would be perfect for this.

yes, please repost pics when you can.

good job
you must have accidentally shrunk them in photoshop, you will need to re-load them I think
ok so I couldnt find a 12 year old who was willing to fix my pix problem for me since I am not computer literate:brickwall
so I did the next "safe" thing....posted those pix on my gallery page.....enjoy.....if any questions just post or PM me and I will reply in a more timely fashion than most bosses do

well it should .... hard top only weighs about 200lbs or so and a garage door is alot more than that

Yeah, but garage doors have the helper springs. Most garage doors are set to have a 20-25# lifting weight.
you could use additional pulleys to compensate for the helper springs that a garage door has. each time you add a pulley, it reduces the amount of force needed to pull something. just a thought.
I like that setup. To clean it up and protect the hole, perhaps a light ring, like what you'd put around a recessed can light, would look a bit nicer and protect the drywall ceiling a bit.

Did you use any kind of insulating material between the joists and the motor mounts?

Pics of how you mounted the stuff in the attic would be great.

i really like the idea of the light ring...i have been working on some ideas but that one sounds the best so far.
as for attic pix.....they wont really turn out well, I have a harbor freight 880lbs hoist that comes with mounting brackets that unistrut slides thru....I mounted that flush on the rafters in the attic.
