Bumper Swap

446 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  99sajeep
I have a 2008 Overland and I like the 2005-2007 front bumper. It looks better, and more regged.

Will the 05-07 front bumper line up properly on a 2008?
will it match around the fenders?

I guess its need some modifications, but I will take it to a local shop for fabrication, if I have too.

Any idea or suggestions..

I don't think you'll have any real issues mounting the older style, but you'll need to also update the headlamps to the older style as well and that might be trickier. One final thought for off roading, the 08 style allows you to disconnect the lower portion of the facia, whereas the older does not. With that lower portion taken off, I believe the approach angle is better than the older facia.

You can mount the older bumper itself without issue but you'll end up with a gap under your stock '08 headlights and your grill will not fit. Your style grill is actually taller than the early style and sits lower. You can get away with your headlights, if you don't mind that scalloped-gap look. But you won't be able to fit that grill at all. I know this because I bought a grill for a 2008 and tried to fit it on my 2005...there was no way to make it work without hacking up the 08 grill.

I have an 07 and haven't had the lower fascia since I bought it and removed it. 4 quarter turn plastic connectors if I remember

For the lower portion (of 05-07 facia / air-dam), you could take it off. I am sure about that.

I have an older grill (2006) in my garage, but its black color. I may use it, if I have too.

But first, I will try to modify the current grill (2008). Unless if its taller, I guess it will be impossible to hack.
If you have both grills (05-07 & 08-10), put them side-by-side and you’ll immediately see the differences. You could probably modify the later grill to fit with an earlier bumper, but I think the effort would be greater than the reward.
