So 5 months ago I purchased new shocks for my jeep and now I want to do a lift. I bought the shocks from autozone, Gabriels I think. I'm going to do an s10 bastard pack lift which should give me about 3 inches. I have a friend at autozone that will let me swap my shocks for longer truck shocks that are the same price. So I will basically be getting longer shocks for free.

What I need to know is what shocks can I replace the stock ones with that will be 3 - 4 inches longer.

I will not be purchasing shocks from anywhere else I just want to trade my shocks so it won't cost me extra.

ok cool, for those that may have my question as well ill post my findings thus far.

Based on this web site(as posted above) http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloads/english/08_MountingLengthSheet.pdf
I have found that 1997 ford f150 rear shocks for the front on the yj are just about perfect and mounting is almost exactly the same, but ill be using Gabiral shocks so the lengths very a little from the monroes. I especially like the fact that the f150 shock has 12.03 inches of travel!

YJ stock specs: Compressed 14.5 in
Extended 24.375 in
Travel 9.8 in

(Gabriel Pro Guard Shocks)
97 F150 specs: Compressed 16.3 in
Extended 28.3 in
Travel 12.03 in

Now ill look to see what I can find for rear shocks

Here is what I found for the rear. 1974 ford F250 shocks will mount up perfectly and have the exact lengths I want as well.

YJ stock specs: Compressed 11.8 in
Extended 18.3 in
Travel 6.5 in

74 F250 specs: Compressed 13.8 in
Extended 23.2 in
Travel 9.3 in

I'm happy with these specs and it will be free so I will go good with my budget bastard pack lift. Thanks for everyone's help. I will post how it rides when I get them installed.

Got the 97 f150 shocks today, fit perfectly! I have to wait untill tomorrow or monday to get the 74 f250 shocks because they were special order. I also found out today that I will be making money by switching to truck shocks!!! ha All 4 of the yj shocks cost 24.99 and the f250 shocks only cost 16.99 so ill get like 16 bucks back! cant beat that.

here is a picture of the shocks compressed and extended. The compressed one can go down about 2 more inches its held down by the retainer strap.

Got the 74' f250 shocks in today and they fit like a glove!!! I am super pleased with the truck shocks and the fact I made 17$!!! from doing this swap! here is some pictures. I will be creating a thread just for this to make it easier to find. Wish there would have been one for me so im sure someone will be able to benefit from it.
