Hello  I have had my Jeep for about a year now and have been upgrading it here and there along the way so I figured it was time for a build thread.

My Brother and Cousin both got CJ's a couple short years back and I wanted in on the fun so i started the search. I found a 98 Sport here on jeepforum for sale fairly close to me in Louisiana. I purchased it right around new years. It had a 4 inch pro comp lift, pro comp bumpers, rugged ridge rocker gaurds, and a few other items.
Here it is the day i bought it:

Like most people here the first things i took care of were painting the headlight bezels and chrome gas filler. I also installed my CB radio I had in my DD truck.(much more useful in the Jeep) I then ordered some new bumpers. Metalcloak front and a smittybilt swing out tire carrier for the rear.

In the mean time I replaced my worn out truxus tires with some BFG KM2's 33x12.50. I went to get an alignment and found out my tie rod was bent so I upgraded to the currie steering and a rancho stabilizer. I also did the alignment and set the toe in by myself using one of the write-ups here in jf. Went on a wheeling trip to Hidden Falls, tx with it pretty much in that state and really enjoyed its capabilities. When i got home I ordered an aussie locker for the front D30.

I installed my Aussie this past weekend and was impressed with the ease of the install. I had also ordered a riddler diff cover and some color matched spray paint to dress it up a little bit. I cannot wait to go wheeling with the aussie installed. So here is the most current pic of my rig

I like it, Did you get the diff cover paint mixed or is it duplicolor factory match pepboys type spray-bomb? how closely did it match the factory paint? I need to color match my yet to be installed MCE flaties.
Love my ChiliPepper...

Nice looking Jeep!!
I ordered the paint online here http://www.automotivetouchup.com/choosecolor/choosecolor.aspx?year=1998&make=Jeep&model=Wrangler
It is a pretty close match but not perfect, although I would think it would be a lot closer if you were two spray the same kind of metals. I would also think you could try to match it closer by changing the number of coats. I wanted to try this stuff because tube fenders are on my list of mods to come and I would much rather a close match than painting them black.

So a little update... installed a Volant intake this weekend to make some room for the tnt phantom fenders that will be here Tuesday.

Also got to work removing the old fenders. Got everything unbolted from the inner fender and removed the passenger side fender.

And Here is a photochop I did to see what they will look like. I will try to color match them with the same spray paint I did my diff cover in. It should be fairly close.

So I should have the fenders Tuesday and hopefully on as the week progresses. I am also looking for an axle upgrade and may have found what I'm looking for:shhh:

So the fenders came in and I got the passenger side fitted up fine and all the holes drilled for the fuse box.

Then when I got to the driver's side I ran into a small problem. Come to find out, I have ABS which means there is a tray very similar to the battery tray on the passenger side that wont allow the T&T fender to fit properly.

I did not see anything in the instructions about this so I gave to dudes at T&T a call. There is another tray included in the package that allows you to mount a compressor or other accessories in that spot. So I will just remount the ABS unit onto this tray and should be gtg. I am going to try to get more done today so I should be done by the weekend:2thumbsup:

New pictures

So I finally got around to cleaning the jeep up and taking some good pictures of the fenders all finished up. I really like the way they came out and the spray paint I put on them matches close enough for me. I still need to do something with my rear flares though...I want to put full corner guards at some point but not quite yet, so maybe I'll trim them up and throw some fresh black paint on them. Let me know what you guys think:2thumbsup:

I also bought a D44 and HP30 from ceichicon here on jf. D44 has arb, alloy shafts, and disc brakes. HP30 has aussie locker, alloy shafts, currie steering. Thanks to ceichicon for a pretty easy sale from his end:thumbsup: I will probably wait a little while to put these axles in because we have a couple of wheeling trips planned coming up and I don't want to put the jeep down in the mean time.

Well, I trimmed my fenders up and then drove over to my cousin's shop to check clearances on his forklift.

Here is flexing the front to full bump. It looks like i can gain about an inch or 2 more if I shorten the bumps stops, but I know at some point soon I will be going bigger on tires so I think I will leave them where they are for now.

Thanks for the replies guys! Just to update...We went on a wheeling trip to Hidden Falls again in Marble Falls,TX about 2 weeks ago. It was WET. We got there late Friday night and it was severe t-storms and a nice little flash flood hit at 2:35am. Needless to say, it was a rough night camping haha. It rained off and on most of saturday but we still had a great time. And sunday turned out to be a really nice day. Too bad we had to leave after lunch. Anyway here are the pics

all loaded up on my brother and I's new trailer!(took a lick to my jeep fund, but a very necessary addition:highfive:)

and some carnage before we even got to wheel

...on to the fun stuff

can't even see that purtty chilli pepper red!!

So, that brings me to how my jeep currently sits. Which is with the D35 unbolted from the jeep. I will be putting my new to me D44 and HP30 in throughout the week so stick around :2thumbsup:

Here's a few pics from the weekend. We had a blast! I ended up bending both rear axle-side shock mounts, so I will be replacing those later in the year with some heavier duty ones. I can bend them back in the mean time for the next couple of trips we have planned. The jeep performed great with the new gears and 35's. I can't wait to get the ARB hooked up in the rear so I'll be locked f/r. Thanks to my brother for the pictures...

I edited a little video too I will post up tomorrow

Very nice jeep. Really like how the fenders came out.
Thanks man! They were some what of a pain to install but very much worth the work(and money lol). Here's a little video I made from the weekend. It's hard to edit a weekend's worth of footage into a short video, but I tried lol. Let me know what you guys think

Can't imbed vimeo so here's a link
