Is it coming from the valves cover? if so is just a vent, in the old times there were no recirculation PCV systems, so all bypass gases were just freely vented. Altough in your photo it seems like it was attached to something.

That is the cross bar of my interior roll cage. The mount is for my trail GPS.

OK, Not from the Jeep, but from my DD
Found an old abandoned 1/8mi Drag strip
This was at the end of about 2 miles of dirt country roads.
Had the drag strip and a Go Cart track on the property.
Booth at the entrance.
