Are dealers really this clueless?

4539 Views 40 Replies 25 Participants Last post by  JurassicMan
I've been talking to 2 Jeep dealers about the new JK. It seems like I know about 10 times as much about the JK as both of them. They have no clue when pricing or the product will be available. One was even saying that the Unlimited wil be a higher end model of the 4 door and that the regular 4 door will be an X model. The dealer today was saying that they won't be available until October or so. Are they just not saying what they know or are they really this in the dark about the new model. I would think they would be reading forums like this to get some tidbids of info on what they will be selling.

If you click on view 360 in the jeep.com 07 wrangler gallery, you get:

Stone White
Steel Blue Metallic
Jeep Green Metallic
Flame Red
Black
Bright Silver Metallic
Rescue Green Metallic
Light Graystone
Red Rock Crystal
no more solar yellow  :(
Yeah, no more solar yellow, no more impact orange, no more intense blue . . . . WTF? Why are there no bright, fun colors? Red? That's it? I just don't get it; how do they expect to drum up any excitement when most of the available colors are available colors of pants from Dockers? WTF?
This year's "bright, fun color" is Rescue Green.
I'm REAL excited. My girlfriend is looking into getting a Jeep sometime in the near future. I'm steadily eating away at that wall about her getting an '07. YEEESSSS!!!!If I can convince her, I will have the best of both worlds!

Yeah, and frankly . . . not that fun. I don't get it; we get two greens, two reds, two whites, black, silver, and a purple-ish navy blue.

WTF? I DEMAND A BRIGHT, OBNOXIOUS COLOR, DAMN IT!:brickwall
Dealer info

ok, so this is not Turtle, this is the Turtle-ette.:D lol..
firstly, I would like to know when Eddie Bauer took over Jeep, because this year's colors suck! Ive had my heart set on an orange metallic JK for months, and theyre not releasing it!!!
I would however like to lend some credence to Fourfishes' post about the dealer information, as we just went to the local dealer today and beat him with a wet waffle until he confirmed it. ***The order date IS July 5th*** for the four door wrangler unlimited. No matter how much they profess to have no information on it, dont be deterred!! Simply hand them their ten pound three ring binder labeled 2007 JEEP/CHRYSLER/DODGE INTRODUCTORY PACKAGE" and say you dont believe them. They've got it, they just can't see it with their heads that far up their *****. They will not have any training on it though or any official information until July 10th.
So the good news is that the information is there, you just have to weasel it out of them. The bad news is that Eddie Bauer has in fact taken over the paint department, and as of right now, the only colors are the ones listed on the page for the two door JK. Click on the 360 view and you can see which ones are available. But dont be fooled, the steel blue metallic is really more of a blue/green/grey than a Navy blue/ purple. And really, the rescue green looks like a nasty combo of boogers and Slimer from the ghostbusters. :(
I have to say Im really very disappointed. However, the new dodge calliber is being released in solar yellow and a rockin' sunburst metallic ORANGE!! which are the only two colors that the jk is not being released in from the new lineup colorschemes.. So perhaps there is hope after all for a FUN late release mid year color ??!! here's hopin!!

Ok, I think my girlfriend is done now . . . lol

The binder also has a page of projected MSRPs, and it shows a bar graph with the price range of all of Jeep's models for '07. It shows the range for the 2door as being between (approximately) $15,000 - $32,000 and the Unlimited as being between $16,000 - $30,000. I didn't have time to take notes, so I may be off by a grand either way, but that's the approximate range that we're looking at.

There was also a page that said that had a breakdown of events by date, and according to that, TJ production is already finished. It also said that (as my girlfriend noted above) the dealers will begin being able to place orders for Unlimiteds beginning on 5 July, with promotional packets being available 10 July, instore training for salesmen right after that, ummmm some other stuff I don't remember, and the dealer will be able to place orders for the 2doors starting 26 July.

With this choice tidbit of information I take back my negative comment about you from another thread.:D I wonder what a 16K unlimited would be like. I've been thinking that the only options I really need in an Unlimited are 4wd, automatic and a/c. That should only add about $2500 right? We'll see!

Edit. I just looked up the price range of the TJ on Edmunds. It is MSRP: $18,390-$28,930. Wonder if they really will have a 15-16k version of the JK.
The rumors all along have been that the JK would have a base List lower than the TJ.
I bet the base list would be less since there will be a 2wd version
True for the Unlimited. However, even for the regular 2dr, the base of the 2007 2dr is supposed to be less than the base price for the 2006 SWB.

Either way, we win!

I would imagine that those colors will be back, just as solar yellow took a vacation and was re-introduced a short time later. I am sure if enough customers request other colors, they will bring them back.
Lets just hope a loaded rubicon will be equal or less

While I was at the dealership yesterday, i looked at the Dodge Caliber (which I'm actually starting to really dig, especially with AWD!) and the brochure for them shows that Solar Yellow is available and there is a new burnt orange color that is really cool as well. All of the other colors are available on Jeeps, so I'm hoping that this points to a mid-year re-introduction of these colors for the Wrangler.

And maybe they'll get rid of the stupid "redrock crystal pearl".

(Jeep? Hint: Redrock is ORANGE! NOT MAROON!)
I visited my local dealer again today. This time I talked to the internet manager. He was more personable than the last guys, but still didn't know much. He thought the price range would be 21-30k. The 'employee pricing' on the 06's worked out to about 10% off of list. A basic stick 06 unlimited was offered for 22,500. Last year I looked at one with automatic and the mirror compass thing for that price.

That seems odd.
The solar yellow needs to be redone. It is so chalky looking, it is not a nice yellow. Very drab...

Eh. It's not bad; it's still a huge improvement over the puke . . . ummmm . . . "rescue" green that they have out now.

Car stealership salesmen clueless??? no way man, that's impossible! :D j/k

In my experience many salesmen don't even know and usually make stuff up about car/trucks they have on the showroom floor, I can't imagine how it's like for cars that still haven't been released.
I had to explain the difference between the 231 and the 242 transfer cases to the sales staff I encountered, thats just Pathetic!
