Hopefully I can get my WJ to my place this weekend. Definitely need to get it dirty sometime soon. Haven't really driven it in like 10 months.
Owens Cross Roads.Oh really? Now what are you talking about when you say OCR?
I agree. It was a little muddy Wednesday, but not bad. Makes the rocks more interesting......... I didn't get a chance to explore the branch off to the right, near the beginning of the road. Does that lead to anywhere fun?Yea it's a great little trail. We need to get all of us together one day for a trail ride up there. It'll only take about 2hrs probably.
I think it just leads to that field. Trucks went mudding back there all the time and they blocked it off.Owens Cross Roads.

Dump a can of Seafoam in. Should help it out.Hopefully my battery will cooperate with me next weekend to take my Jeep out. I need to burn off all the 11 month old gas that's in it.
I've seen a couple lifted XJ's around. Probably seen yours a time or two.Whats up fellas, long time lurker first time posting. Here's my story.
So, I'm a yota guy. Always have been and always will be. I had a 2008 Tacoma all done up. It was my dream truck. Wheeled it a little bit and decided I didn't want to mess up my DD so I picked up a 73 cj5 rust bucket. If you guys have never had the opportunity to drive something like that, you are missing out. After wheeling the crap out of it for a while I decided it was time to sell it as I was about to graduate from school and didn't have the time and money to tow it around all the time (wasn't road legal).
So then I decided to stick with wheeling the truck. That is until a patch of ice got the best of me on 565 about two months ago. Needless to say the truck is gone now and insurance money wasn't enough to replace it so I decided to buy a 99 XJ and use some of the insurance money to really build it up. Still working out some of its kinks but its gonna be a great wheeling vehicle.
Looking forward to maybe wheeling with you guys and shooting the stuff about jeeps. and if you guys don't mind wheeling with toyotas, I've always got a group to go with (they are pretty good guys, they are alright with me being a jeep guy haha).
Oh, yeah, the names Paul.
No lift on mine yet. Just bought it a little over a week ago. I'm now pondering the route I want to go with it.I've seen a couple lifted XJ's around. Probably seen yours a time or two.
Welcome, Paul!No lift on mine yet. Just bought it a little over a week ago. I'm now pondering the route I want to go with it.
I'll probably stick with 33's no matter what, but i'm debating on whether or not I want a 6.5" lift or 4.5". I'd probably be fine with the 4.5" because I don't have the time to wheel like I used to but the flex you get out of those 6.5" kits is
One benefit in going the 4.5" route is that it will leave me enough money to regear and lock it in the short future.
Fender clearance for big tires is an issue with the xj's. the jk's seem to have been made to throw big tires under. The suggested tire size for a 6.5" is 33x12.5. I could fit 33's with a 4.5" but I would have to tuck and trim the fenders, which isn't a big deal, but I don't want to have a ratty looking vehicle just to fit bigger tires. The biggest thing for me on the 4.5" lifts though is it seems you need to get the long arm kits to give you a good amount of articulation and they run about 1500 bucks. The one nice thing about my tacoma was that good quality stuff was pretty affordable. I put a 3" OME lift on it for about 400 bucks and could clear 33's no problem. To make my XJ clear 33's, I'm looking at about 2k to do it half way right.Welcome, Paul!
As far as lifting the XJ: I am in the low center-of-gravity group, so I say go with the least amount of lift you can get away with for the size of tire you plan to run, and still have good flex.
I am running 3.5" of lift on my JK, with 35's, and it is just about perfect for what I want to do with it.
I don't know much about XJ's and how much clearance they have, but I would think that 4.5" of lift would be more than enough for 33's. Again, this is just my opinion, with very limited knowledge of XJ's.
And, like you mentioned, going with the 4.5" lift would allow you to do a few other mods as well.

I guess my old TJ and the new JK have me spoiled, as far as being able to fit bigger tires with minimal lift/body mods ............ $2k to fit 33's is pretty steep. But, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. :cheers2:Fender clearance for big tires is an issue with the xj's. the jk's seem to have been made to throw big tires under. Do you guys know any reputable shops in the HSV/Madison area for regearing? Trying to get my costs figured out so I can make the best choice. I've heard of RCO, but everything I have heard hasn't been the best.
x2. Dealt with them a couple of times. Never a bad experience. The manager, Frankie, is a Jeep/Yota guy. He is good people.RCO is fine, has never done me wrong and usually done for less than quoted.
