Ok here is a clutch trans question for y'all. The other night we killed the battery and tried to push start the jeep. When I popped the clutch a loud bang was heard and now it will not go into a gear. Engine on or off. Clutch in or out. Soooo I need to at least replace the clutch and maybe the trans (I think it's the trans). Here are my options.

I got a few clutch quotes at about 700-800 and if the trans is gone they will charge 1300-1700 more.

If I do it myself up at the auto center on post the clutch is 130 or so for the kit and a used trans for 500ish. I currently have the ax5 trans but advanced adapters has a kit I can install the ax15 behind the 4 banger. This will not only be stronger but allow options for the future.

For about half the cost at a shop I could upgrade. Anyone done the clutch and or trans on a tj? Anyone have a trans your tripping over?

Your thoughts?
Thanks...
Ive done the clutch in my TJ before. I came down a hill in 4lo and 1st gear with the clutch pushed in. over spun the couch and it disintegrated. Had to get dragged out. Should have been in neutral with the trans.
It wasn't to bad to do. The ax15 swap you be better off finding a transferase with the 23 spline input. And you might want to go ahead and do a SYE while you have it out.
But just swapping in another ax5 isn't a bad option. It gets a bad wrap for being weak, but Ive put mine through enough abuse and its held up okay.

Id check with Complete Auto Recyclers for a transmission and possibly a transfercase pending on the rout you go. Probably a little pricey, but its at least an option.

WRT to the AX5 - the weakness is in torque application in the reverse 'direction' - i.e. coming down hill in 4LO or jump starting it... it's not designed to have torque applied to the output shaft...
In normal applications, i.e. engine applying torque, they are more than adequate for the 4 squirrels. (we've seen several mercilessly beat on and never a failure)

Ok sounds like we will just replace the ax5 with another and do the clutch while it is out. Found a couple in the area for about 650 used.
Sorry for the late response. Looks like RCOR is not worth the cost for what you need. Your pretty lucky to find a functioning AX5, are you certain yours is bad?

Anyone want a winch? $200 for you guys.

Superwinch EPi9.0 with synthetic line. Works fine. Only issue with it is two of the mounting posts are corroded and some of the power coat is coming off.

Moving out and trying to off load some stuff.
If you have a spare front driveshaft, I'll take it.

You moving away? or still in the vicinity?

PM'd you.

Yea, moving away. Got a job in Houston, TX area, so we are headed that way after Thanksgiving. Bittersweet really. Alabama is all I've really known my whole life (apart from college at Purdue). And I hate that I'm leaving everyone that I know behind, but you gotta do what you gotta do to pay the bills. But on the other hand, I've heard a lot of good things about Houston. So maybe the change in scenery will be nice.

Furniture Chair Office chair Armrest Comfort
Matt has wanted to do this since we replaced the seats in the jeep. The passenger seat was ok and he saved it. Been sitting in the garage. Today he found a donor office chair being thrown out and mounted it to the jeep seat. Actually sits pretty good.

lol, I gave my CJ back seat to a buddy and he made a hitch mounted bench seat out of it. Great minds think alike!

I see him everyday and love that idea. I told him to park next to me, but I don't drive the jeep to work as much anymore with the new wheels. Gonna do some more work on the XJ anyways.
