looks like one of the guys from cherokee forum when to holly tree on saturday. Looked like a muddy mess.
Haha, yeah that was me.

Lots of fun..........and mud. Looks like Hollytree has really come around. I went there on the day they opened and once in September, they need some more trails cut, but the land is perfect for it.

With the amount of rain we have had, which is +3" for the year(surplus), every place is going to be muddy. Hale Mountain was God Aweful 3 weeks ago. Hollytree was bad as well, but not like Hale Mountain. It rained at Hollytree last Thursday pretty good, so Saturday was bound to be muddy. I don't see how any ORV park will not be muddy when 2 months into the new year the overall rainfall average is 3" above normal, thats alot btw.

FYI- two different weather agencies expect 60% chance of snow on saturday. Couple that with above freezing temps and it might as well be raining.

I don't mind the mud all that much, although I am not considered a "mudder". That being said, my last 2 rides have been in the mud at Hale Mtn and Hollytree and its been a mess, but still loads of fun. Make sure a couple of guys have winches and tow straps.

They dropped snow chances for this weekend down to 30% and I think it'll be lower than that for Hawk Pride. Let's ride!
I hope your right. the NWS (national weather service) has 50% from friday night thru saturday night.

I work for the DoD and one of my jobs it to be an amateur meteorologist (don't ask). So I have to keep a close eye on all things weather related across the globe. I talked with my counterparts at the NWS here in Huntsville and they believe that there will be snow, but it is still unclear what it will look like or if it will stick. It will be cold enough Saturday for sure, even if temps are above freezing, the wind will keep ambient temps sub freezing. Also, Saturday night will probably the coldest night this winter. Temps in Huntsville will be in the low 20s and high Teens, so bundle up if your gonna be out late.

That being said, having looked at the weather models and simulations, the farther south of the TN line you go, the better off you will be getting away from the mud.

One more thing for anyone that needs weather forecasts.......don't rely on weather.com or intellicast.com................spc.noaa.gov is the only way to go. WHNT.com is also a good resource for local weather. But weather is not an exact science, so keep that in mind

// end thread jack :2thumbsup:

Edit: the NWS has changed to 40% Friday, 50% Saturday, and 20% Saturday night..............it will change 4-5 times by Saturday.

Ahhh, another amateur weather nerd! I doubt I dig into it as much as you do, I'm more interested in sever weather. I've taken regular and advanced spotter classes, the regular I've done twice.

They've been playing with the percentages all week, up and down and up again but accumulation looks minimal and the cold will be worse than the snow.

I'm down to go as far south as Birmingham, it doesn't have to be Hawk Pride.
Yep LOL, I do it out of necessity for my job. I have received training from the NWS and Air Force Weather Agency, both very interesting. There is alot more to building a forecast than licking your finger and sticking it out the window.

Of particular interest to me is the possibility of more snow Tuesday into Wednesday next week. That just popped up this afternoon after a few models changed during the afternoon run.

Anyways, hope yall have fun. I will be putting in ball joints this weekend, so I will be at the shop..........in the heat!

Everyone have fun and don't break anything.

FYI- here is a local blog from WHNT news where all the meteorologist go more in depth with forecasts and possibilitys. They update it about 2-3x a day.

and then there were three.
I would go, I don't care about rain, snow, sleet, or volcano...........but I am working on the Heep and its rare that I actually have the time to do this. If, and thats a big if, I can get by my buddies shop tonight and put in 4 new ball joints, I will try to make it out.

My philosophy mirrors that of my hunting philosophy.................."The best time to go wheeling(or hunting/fishing) is when you can"

I got a taste of a front locker....now I definitely need to regear. O well, time and money are always scarce and they always go together.

EDIT: Heres you a hp d30 right here. http://huntsville.craigslist.org/pts/3654673083.html
Front lockers are great, but I also have stock gears on 33"......and its a 5 speed............well more like a 4 speed with 3.07s. I can't wait til I have 4.56s and my rear locker.

most shops will have someone that can do it.
Ive done it, and I moonlight as a mechanic 3 nights a week at my buddies shop. That being said, you don't want to go cheap on labor on this specific project.

The tools can be expensive, having set up some axles a few years ago... I had to buy a good tq wrench, feeler gauges, and dial indicator. But to be honest, the hardest part isn't setting them up, its tearing the whole thing back down when you need to add a shim or make adjustments. I will be doing my gears in a shop on a lift, but I have done them in a driveway............it took over 6 hrs and was a pain.

Simply put, in the age of Youtube and internets, a mechanically minded person can successfully pull this off without major issues.

If anybody is interested, I have a buddy selling 5 JK Rubicons Moabs with tires for $500. He's getting a 3.5" lift with 35's. Unfortunetly it's a RC lift, with RC XD wheels (which don't look too bad) and ProComp AT tires. Of all the things I just hope he changes his mind on the tires. Those aren't worth ****.
Talk to me Goose...........what size tires on these?

Yes, I love that color.

Where are you located, looks like the east/southeast side of HSV based on the pictures. I live in the Hampton Cove/OCR area on the side of Green Mountain.

I'm down in Lacey's Spring. Loving the Jeep and the area so far.
Ah, ok. I love that area.

We need to get a spring ride together. Hollytree or Hale Mtn, with some camping and BS story telling time. ?????

When you say "light bar" do you mean an LED Light bar or just a bar to mount lights? A 50" LED Bar would be awesome.
