It will be LCG...but not 2 in lift. I want it just like you said 3 or 4 with a 1.25BL and 35s. I just want different tires and aluminum beadlocks and I want the Savvy suspension since I don't have the time, tools or know-how to do my own.
I ran a buddies 35 KM2s on my Jeep at Hale on New Years Eve. RC 2.5" and 1" body lift, didn't rub a single bit. All the way from south Huntsville there and back. Im now looking for a deal on some 35s either Kevlars or KM2s.

I see that y'all are wanting to go wheeling. There is always the Easter ride up on Coalmine Mt, but its always a zoo up there. Ill never go up there for that ride again. Hale Mt is going to be open this weekend and next week end 12th-15th. A friend of mine in his CJ and me in my TJ are going to Hale on Friday the 13th for the day. Anyone is welcome to join us, just let me know.

Oh and there is an RCRC meeting Thursday at Newks on University 6pm for dinner, 7pm for the meeting. Ill be there as usual.:cheers2:

When are you talking of going there? If it is this weekend, I may be able to go as well, if it is next weekend.....I will be doing y tub swap (finally getting rid of all the rust), but May 12th, we are still planning to go to Hawk's Pride. My friend has a YJ now and we have to put an engine in it and my son got a blazer 4x4, already jacked up with new 31's (paid $800 fir the it) and we have pulled the heads to get redone (no compression in #1 and #3), and hopefully it will be put back together next week. Thinking of starting a 4x4 club called RAW (has been our gaming tag name since 2000, why not carry it over into the wheeling world.....lol) I have good connections with Jeep parts and someone who fixes/builds rock crawlers. Anyways, got off track, when are you guys going?

Thanks, Scott (in Decatur)
If you are going to Hawk Pride, you'll love it there. My wheeling buddies and I have been there a few times (last time on St. Patty's day) and we love the park. Lots of challenging trails, we rode for 2 days, and only covered half the trails we planned to. Not a lot for stock-ish vehicles that I know of, but still a cool place.:2thumbsup:

Im always willing to go wheeling, just PM me a date and place and ill make it happen, I only check here once a week if that.

Hawk Pride

256chili,

I hope I will be ok, I will not have my lift until after I go to hawkspride on May 12th. According to the trail map, I should be able to get around the trails (main) ok, which is fine for the first time I go, I just want to be able to get around and watch my brother and some others do the extreme things. I dropped my tub off at a custom fab shop here in Decatur, to get some things doen on it before I do the swap. But he told me it would be about 3 weeks, before he could even get to it. So that means I will not have my 4" suspension lift until end of May probably. Then I am either going with 33" or 35" tires, have not decided yet. Anyways, do you think I can make it around the main trails ok....being stock for now?
What do you have for an offroading background? Just playing in the local mud holes? Hunting trails? Harder Rock crawling? I prefer playing in the rocks, and avoiding the mud, and i have been going to different parks for 3 years now, that and my TJ isn't stock, so my opinions are going to be a little biased.

Assuming that you have a bone stock YJ with stock all terrain tires, you should be able to get around on the main trails fairly well. Mountain side might give you a few problems cause there are some big drainage ruts running across it in a few places. Over in the Brokefoot the very first part way down at the bottom you might be able to do. Lucky's would be doable, but there is a rutted out hill climb with a mud hole at the bottom, and I was dragging my rear diff all up the ruts, if you don't have mud tires theres not a chance you will get up it, even if its dry. You should be able to do Buck, Apple, Gate Road, and Slick, i have bypassed these, cause i wanted more of a challenge. But if you see something, that looks doable, go for it, and dont be afraid to explore around, its a BIG park.

They have been cutting tons of new trails all over, and I heard there is a newer map with all of them on it, but we didn't grab one for some reason. Just ask them at check in and they should be able to hook you up with it.

Oh and when you turn off of alt 72 just pass the church, put your right foot to the floor, its a long steep grade to climb.

thanks 256, yeah I am new to all of this. Went with my brother back in December and then went to TN in my 4x4 Blazer a couple of months ago, andthat is when I decided to trade it for a jeep.....lol.

Well I got bored yesterday and wanted out of the house, so me and a friend went to Hawkspride. I took Bighill down and then went into Maverick (I think), then coming back I took canescreek and Abbies Trail, then came back up Mountainside. That is about all the time we had, because they wanted to leave at 7 and we got there at 4 (park says it is open tilll 9). But anyways, we had lots of fun and saw other trails that I know I could do, just time did not allow it. Once I have my lift on it, I saw several more that I know I can do.......lol. As for my brother, I did not se anything out there he can not do....

Brothers rig and me from yesterday (playing in a rut.....lol):
Sweet. Im glad you had a good time out there. You'll be fine to get around the park and watch your brother on the harder trails. Im trying to get together a group with similar Jeeps to go to Hawk Pride again, but most of my normal wheeling group are rebuilding their Jeeps. Oh well, we will be going to Hale Mt for shakedown runs as people finish their different projects, love going there too.:2thumbsup:

Where is Hale Mountain? I was looking at HPM and it says they are only open 1st and 3rd weekend of th emonths, which means they will be closed 5/12, so I guess we will have to find somewhere else to go. Maybe Choc Mountain.....

Is there any closer places around here to go, just to get out and about? Without paying, or even if you did pay...something closer....

Hale Mt is just south of Elora TN, but still in Alabama. Takes me 45 minutes door to door from SE Huntsville. Great place, and hospitality second to none. Most of the trails are unmarked, but they are working on cutting a bunch of new trails, and marking everything after. They are open the second weekend of every month, and some holidays, and you can always rent out the park for a big group if you need. I LOVE going there, but i will say if you have never been, go with someone who has. 33s and you can get around to see most everything, add a front locker and you will have more trails then you can do in a day. Id be happy to take you up there anytime, just give me a few weeks notice to make sure I'm free.

Here is a list on the RCRC website http://www.rocketcityrockcrawlers.com/where_to_go_wheelin.htm Hope that helps.
Come to an RCRC club meeting and we will get you out on the trails, Im just about always there.

This was the best moment of all.....

All day long I kept telling my brother if he got stuck I would pull him out and at the end of the day, he broke his front axles on a Level 5 trail called "Ditch" (Top porion) and I had to pull him out. This was a video, but I did a print screen to get the still shot......his is a CJ5, which was same size as my YJ when it was stock....look at the difference now.....lol
What did he break? axle shaft? You are obligated to share the video of the breakage:rtft:

Yeah, I just heard about that recently, that's unfortunate. Kind of got an idea of it after I got back there a ways and saw a little bit of the evidence.
Is there a better place around here to go?
There is a reason why I charge a good bit to pull people out at ditto. Legally you can go to Hale Mt ORP, I love the place. There are some other places, but you have to know the secret handshake to get to them.:rtft:

I ordered an Alpine headunit, Alpine Powerpack, and 4 Polk speakers. I'm not sure if I want to put it in myself or take it to Dr. Eddies and let them put it in.
If you dont want to do it yourself, check out The Speaker Box out on 72 East just past Moores Mill Road. http://www.thespeakerbox.net/
Really nice guys, very knowledgable, decent prices and very good quality.

I saw a '11 or '12 JKU doorless and topless at Walmart the other day. I wish I had my JF cards with me.
Ive noticed a lot of JKs in town over the last few months or so. Mostly stock, a handful of lifted ones, they are to clean to be wheeled, and very few wave. Its tragic.

Me and some folks are hopefully meeting up in Gurley on July 7th to test out the new offroad part outside of Paint Rock. You should join us!
I would like to, but I think I have a wedding that night. I might at least go for most of the day pending what comes up with this wedding. I am interested in checking out this park and how it compares to Hale. At $20 plus gas, I hope its got something challenging. Any word if they have a map yet?

$20 aint too horrible, and the word 'Gas' should be somewhere in the "this is your only warning" thread from the Stickies!:nono:
The whole gas thing isn't really a problem for me cause I have the 4 angry squirrels and they get 18-22mpg :highfive: I'm just cheap.

When Hale Mt is $15 and has a ton of trails that challenge my jeep and me as a driver, its kinda hard to fork up the extra $5. But its worth going at least once. Besides, I'm a college kid and i only get paid minimum wage.

Same for 'MPG' , just a Jeep thing. But your right, the price should go down some, time will tell!

So your a member of the RCRC's. Is it worth it? I though about meeting them before, but some people told me they are stuck up (or something to that effect).
I am.:D You should come to a meeting sometime, maybe a ride or two. Most everybody is pretty cool and nice. I heard the same thing before i joined. In a group you always get some that are a little stuck up, but i haven't met any yet. I just joined back in November.

When I joined we went on a lot of rides pretty often, but it seemed like everyone kept breaking there stuff and now there are very few rides.

I joined because my normal wheeling group was just busy with school, work, and rebuilding there jeeps and we only went 3 to 5 times a year. I was hoping to go at least once a month, and it was like that, but it was just up to some private land.

School and a new job have made it to where i cant go to often because i have to work most weekends. I still manage to get out about once ever two months or so.

Ill go wheeling with anybody as long as they aren't going fro just mud or just easy stuff. I built my Jeep with rock crawling in mind, and it holds up to everything i put it through, so bring me a challenge!

Me and some of my buddies for sure right now. Some others here on JF have voiced some interest, but nothing definite yet. I'm thinking we meet at Hardees in Gurley at like 8:30 or 8:45.
Sounds good to me. Let me know if the plans change. Any more built Jeeps going?

Not really anything BUILT built. Most everyone is just mildly modded. Biggest tire that I can think of in the group is 33s.
I used it figuratively. I was more wondering if it was a bunch of stock jeeps or ones with a lift and mud tires, and maybe lockers. Im only rolling on 33s, but Im not afraid to wheel my Jeep.

Its not looking good for me for hitting hollytree this weekend. After getting two bad driveshafts, I finally decided to just order a tom woods so now I gotta wait on that. Not to mention the pinion seal I was sold is the wrong one....There goes the money for the locker I was going to order.
Bad drive shafts? Are the u joints just going bad that fast? Or is the cv just shot?are they stock drive shafts or do you have a sye?

Good, glad to see you guys aren't afraid to break things. The tacoma guys I used to wheel with (except for one who is straight up crazy) don't wheel to hard.
I dont like breaking stuff, but if it happens, it happens. Thats why I carry spares, and have a truck and trailer at home I can call and get.

Just got my shipping info and my driveshaft and pinion seal will be here Friday. If I pull off some act of God and can get that pinion nut off I'm gonna try my hardest to make it Saturday. I want to see how that locker of yours handles since I literally was about to order one when I encountered this drive shaft situation.
Impact gun? or a really long breaker bar? Late night wrenching the night before is always a part of going wheeling.
As far as lockers go, get a front lockright or aussie and you'll never regret it. Best mod I've ever done to my Jeep for traction.
