Hawk Pride
256chili,
I hope I will be ok, I will not have my lift until after I go to hawkspride on May 12th. According to the trail map, I should be able to get around the trails (main) ok, which is fine for the first time I go, I just want to be able to get around and watch my brother and some others do the extreme things. I dropped my tub off at a custom fab shop here in Decatur, to get some things doen on it before I do the swap. But he told me it would be about 3 weeks, before he could even get to it. So that means I will not have my 4" suspension lift until end of May probably. Then I am either going with 33" or 35" tires, have not decided yet. Anyways, do you think I can make it around the main trails ok....being stock for now?
What do you have for an offroading background? Just playing in the local mud holes? Hunting trails? Harder Rock crawling? I prefer playing in the rocks, and avoiding the mud, and i have been going to different parks for 3 years now, that and my TJ isn't stock, so my opinions are going to be a little biased.
Assuming that you have a bone stock YJ with stock all terrain tires, you should be able to get around on the main trails fairly well. Mountain side might give you a few problems cause there are some big drainage ruts running across it in a few places. Over in the Brokefoot the very first part way down at the bottom you might be able to do. Lucky's would be doable, but there is a rutted out hill climb with a mud hole at the bottom, and I was dragging my rear diff all up the ruts, if you don't have mud tires theres not a chance you will get up it, even if its dry. You should be able to do Buck, Apple, Gate Road, and Slick, i have bypassed these, cause i wanted more of a challenge. But if you see something, that looks doable, go for it, and dont be afraid to explore around, its a BIG park.
They have been cutting tons of new trails all over, and I heard there is a newer map with all of them on it, but we didn't grab one for some reason. Just ask them at check in and they should be able to hook you up with it.
Oh and when you turn off of alt 72 just pass the church, put your right foot to the floor, its a long steep grade to climb.
