nj got rid of all mech/safety inspections but still need emissions. Took my 88 YJ in to the state inspection facility in flemington (run by Parsons) and noticed they still measured door height and i realized and confirmed after searching that we still have High Rise req's. FYI lol:thumbdown:
Anyway i failed and would appreciate some advice. YJ has 4.2L and new AX-15 . Engine has 160,000 mi, was rebuilt some time and miles ago. Upon my buying YJ i have installed WEBER 34 DGEC, have holley FPR and gauge dialed to a hair over 3.5 PSI, NUTTERED it, TR'ed it, installed the regular autolite's gapped to 0.045", wires new hi performance from Napa. (thermostat is a 180 or 190 how much would the ten - 20* hotter stock one help emissions?) All or most of these upgrades have been completed less than 7,000 mi ago. Timing is set to around 8* BTDC, idle speed set to around 950 RPM and cat has been replaced by PO some time ago and seems to work well judging by its red hot glow.
Got the jeep hot as it is a long drive out there and had put some iso-heet (drygas/isoprophyll alcohol). Jeep has been running very good since upgrades. BUT...lol i still failed
IDLE failed for HC ppm 330 (accept: 220) and CO% 9.43 (accept:1.20) extra info CO2% = 9.0 (ok) and O2% = 0.5
HIGH IDLE passed HC ppm @ 130 (accept: 220) but failed for CO% 6.01 (accept: 1.20) extra info CO2% 11.5 (ok) and O2% 0.1 (ok)
also i failed for the gas cap not holding pressure but it is a year old?!?!?! wth? i thought i stumbled on a post a while ago re: the inspectors not being able to properly test the old yj gas caps
so i think from the research on JF and the also calculating mpgeez and getting around 9 (although the was alot of idling on this tank) i have gathered that i am running rich. but am unsure of how to rectify. Should i be playing with weber idle mixture screw? I know weber says to set it half way between stumbles and mine pretty much is, although clockwise it backs out all the way and really doesnt stumble to poorly. Which direction is lean and which is rich? Probably changing oil, getting a stock temp t-stat, and trying to lean out weber. Could it be something else? Any other things to look at?
