Amor Rex Inc, Off-Road Trailer Build
Inspired by armyRN. Check out his great thread on the Harbor Freight Trailer Build. Many members have posted their works of art.
I placed the order with deiequipment around 11:00am and I already have a FedEx tracking number. 6 boxes picked up in City of Industry, CA. (Los Angeles). Destination just north of the Golden Gate. We call it Wine Country. Tracking says it will be here tomorrow, WOW.
I went with the trailer with 12" wheels, diamond plate floor and enclosed box. Could be a slightly oversized Erector Set project. I'll take photos from the boxes to the finished trailer. I like the idea of an instant trailer. Second step will be the axle and some 15" rims with some kind of A/T tires. I'm also thinking of a canvas cover in the shape of a box with grommets to slip over the box.

Starting the build
Things went great tonight. I worked on the trailer from 4:30 to 8:00, but that included taking my son to football practice and having dinner. All parts were bagged well and everything seemed to fight just right. No hammering, pushing or pulling.

Trailer with Diamond Plate
Here's a couple more pictures including the Diamond Plate. It's not ready to bolt down yet. I still have to do the wiring for the lights. I t would much easier with the floor off. Oh yeah, and I found out were those extra 6 bolts, nuts and washers go. Top four corners and the center support. Dah! That will pull the frame together perfectly. I really like the floor. Friday or Saturday I'll put the metal box on. I threw the grey box on the front that I had laying around the garage. I new it would come in handy one day.

nice trailer for sure! only problem i have with my HF trailer is the rear lights, just like yours. every now and then, the trailer goes back on it's rear when loading up something (4 wheeler), and those lights take a beating. might want to consider moving them to the top of the fenders. just a thought.

Mounted like that they sure would take a beating. When I went to put on the tailgate supports they hit the lights. Then I realized I had the brackets on backwards and now the lights sit back around 2". Here's how they look now. Thanks.

Canvas Trailer Cover
I was thinking of having a cover made from boat canvas? It would look like an open box and slip over the whole trailer box, with grommets around the bottom. Excel Graph Paper Template came in handy.

Bummer!
Okay, let's see how good of a company DEI is, So far I would say they're Great! I ordered the parts on Monday and they were delivered on Wednesday. On Friday I finished the trailer, lights and installed the diamond plate deck. Next step was to put the box on. When I opened the box the packing dividers where at the bottom and I noticed some scratches on a couple panels. I could almost except that, they did come from 1/2 way around the world. But there was no bolts, washers, nuts or instructions? The straps were on the box, but there was a lot of clear tape on the end. From the inside looking through the box it was clear the box was repacked or returned. Friday at 8:30 or so there was not much I could do but send some emails. Very disappointing! More to come...

Okay Terrific
Just received an email from my DEI representative (on a Saturday. They're closed) and they will ship the new boxes out on Monday and send a call tag for the damaged boxes. I really like these guys!

It feels sturdy, the metal isn't to thin. It's 20" tall. There's three good size bolts on every corner and the tailgate has some heavy-duty brackets. It's removalable. Here's some pictures of the tailgate bracket and tailgate.

^Genius! I'm watching these threads like a hawk.
My brain is spinning out weighing the options of HF version and being able to DIY/customize more vs the DEI version and being able to pay a little extra to have the diamond bottom (I like the idea of not having to deal with waterproofing lumber/etc), available box and a-frame support.
