Airbag cover sun damaged and scratched

Just bought a 98 TJ Sahara and the airbag cover/door is sun damaged and scratched up pretty good. Without having to replace it (it looks to be a pain in the ***) are there any suggestions for a quick cover up?

Not sure what would work for the scratches, but folks have had good luck dealing with faded plastic by using a vinyl and fabric paint such as Krylon Fusion.
