I just picked up this 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 with 150k miles for $600. It needs the 247 rebuilt or replaced with a 242 im not sure which to do yet. The motor has a knock in it also so i need to see if i can fix this one or put a new motor in it.

I sold my ZJ yesterday for $3000 yesterday and kept my 285 duratracs which are now forsale. I was wondering what would be a good riding lift kit for the WJ cause im not going to cheap out on this kift like i did the ZJ which rode like a dump truck.

All that has been done to the WJ so far is i paintrd the wheels because they were staind badly with brake dust and my Girlfriend cleand out the interior.

nice! thats a good price even if the motors blown IMO. just get long arms and decent shocks and it will ride well. those are the two key pieces to a good ride.

if i had to do it all over again id buy iron rock's 6.5 critical path kit from the start, i would of saved a ton of money buying/selling parts and ended up with all the stuff i like that i have now.
I would replace it with NP242, then built a 4.6 Stroker.
The difference in ride quality between short and long arms is night and day. Long arms are definitely the way to go.

:nono: it's got the 4.7 v8 in it. He'd be going backwards doing that. :nono:
take that motor and have it punched out to a 4.9

Yea im thinking about the 242 just trying to find one cheap enough and a driveshaft. Im def going to keep the v8 in it though.

Im leaning towards the IRO 4" long arm kit right now with bilsteins just not sure which bilsteins to get.

Any info on making it a 4.9?
Well dug the jeep out of the 12+ inches of snow we got yesterday and looked at the motor some more. I'm thinking it may be a connecting rod or rod bearing. Going to pull the oil pan Saturday and look at it.
Just ordered a 3" Summit Cat-back!!! Anyone know how they sound?
bore the block over 30
I fixed the knock in the motor today. It had a bad rod bearing but the crank was unhurt so i threw a new bearing in and no more knock.

Also going to pick up everything to swap to a 242 tomorrow for $300!!!:2thumbsup:
Ha, funny its the same year, mileage, motor and color as the one i just bought with a knock.
congrats on fixing the knock  def worth the price now:D

For seriously?? That is awesome!! Did you get a 242HD or LD and did the everything include the rear DS? Even $300 for the TC alone is a good deal!
damn dude, looks like you really came out ahead for this one!
also should prolly change your info, you have a WJ now.

Thanks! I was pretty pumped when the crank hadn't been messed up at all. :cheers2:

Im getting the Front and rear driveshaft, Transfer case, and shift bezel from a guy parting one out. :highfive: How do i tell if its an HD or not?

Yea for once i came out ahead. Wish this kind of stuff happened more often.

If it cam from a WJ w/ a 4.7, it will be an HD... 4.0 will be a LD. On the HD, the rear output shaft will have a long metal tail housing around it, where as the LD will have a rubber boot. The rear out put shaft will also be 32 splines. But congrats on the find!

It came from another 4.7 so i guess i got an HD
You are lucky. You got a VERY VERY VERY clean Jeep for a VERY VERY VERY good price. Good find!
