that is an OPDA (Oil PumpDrive Assembly) it replaced the distributor when 4.0L engines went to COIL RAIL, a distributor less system. It is also the location of the CMP (Cam Position Sensor). Do not try to adjust timing or move OPDA as it must be in SYNC with CKP (Crank Position Sensor).
It’s clicking badly. Obviously a bad circuit for those of us that know anything about that. Sounds like a valve tick. Probably will fail soon. Thanks for your response I’ll have to do some research on how to replace it.
It’s in the cover… by tue way I have a $5 Chinese made valve cover gasket on this thing that I torqued to spec and it has lasted almost 30,000 miles. If you like spanakopita… lol
