that is an OPDA (Oil PumpDrive Assembly) it replaced the distributor when 4.0L engines went to COIL RAIL, a distributor less system. It is also the location of the CMP (Cam Position Sensor). Do not try to adjust timing or move OPDA as it must be in SYNC with CKP (Crank Position Sensor).

Tell us whats has you focusing on the OPDA?

It’s clicking badly. Obviously a bad circuit for those of us that know anything about that. Sounds like a valve tick. Probably will fail soon. Thanks for your response I’ll have to do some research on how to replace it.

just remove the 2 screws on plstic cap to get an eyeball on rotating sensor- damaged, hitting, loose.

The OPDA and CMP are timed to CKP - be sure you understsnd how to set SYNC if you go deeper than cover...
